I couldn’t let May slip by without doing a post for
Mental health is part of our overall health and when we’re not taking care of ourselves emotionally ❤️ it’s eventually going to affect us physically
When I was dealing with , I thought I could just 🏃♀️ my sadness away. While physical exercise is a mood-booster and can help us regulate feelings, it won’t fix us at our core. It took me quite some time to seek out a therapist and get the help I needed
I share this because according to the NIH, women are more likely to deal with depression, anxiety and eating disorders than men are. Women also deal with mental health issues that are unique to us:
Perinatal depression during or after pregnancy 🤰
Premenstual dysphoric disorder around the time of our period
Perimenopausal depression
Please know that getting help doesn’t make you weak—it means that you’re strong enough to take care of yourself for YOU and also for your family and friends 💕
If you are seeking help and you’re not sure where to start, check out SAMHSA.gov, which offers lots of resources for finding a therapist or a support group
Here’s to taking care of all of ourselves so that we can show up and do all the incredible things women do every day 🩷🩷🩷
