CocoaCompassion

CocoaCompassion Cacao & chocolate serve as our medium to increase engagement, curiosity, and awareness of the world's toughest social, economic & environmental challenges.

CocoaCompassion™ is a new socially responsible company. Cacao & chocolate serve as our medium for addressing social, economic & environmental challenges. We can each contribute to change by understanding the issues and considering our choices. Why chocolate? Globally, it's a $100 billion industry. People love chocolate. However, there has always been a disconnect between cacao-farming and consumpt

ion. Why does it matter? The U.S. government found that more than 1.8 million children in West Africa were involved in growing cocoa. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) says hundreds of thousands of these children, many of them trafficked across country borders, are engaged in the worst forms of child labor. This includes slavery, human trafficking, abuse, and dangerous or hazardous conditions or materials (such as dangerous equipment or tools, exposure to pesticides, or being forced to perform unreasonably difficult tasks or long working hours). It also means they are prevented from going to school. Even with the advent of “fair trade” certification, a tool created to improve working conditions and fair pay, little change has been realized. Additionally, big business is focused on growing and harvesting the largest volume of cacao and pays little attention to how its farming practices lead to soil depletion, erosion and waste; all which can lead to global warming emissions.

Mental Health for All starts with community—and compassion.

At ThePod by CocoaCompassion, we believe in building bridges: between cacao farmers and consumers, between creativity and healing, and between individuals and the support they deserve.

This May, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we're proud to lead a team for NAMIWalks 2025—our third year participating in this powerful movement to raise awareness and funds for the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

We’ve set a team goal of $3,000 to help NAMI continue offering free mental health programs, support groups, education, and advocacy to those who need it most.

You can walk with us, share our story, or donate to support the cause.
Together, we can help make mental health support accessible to all.

A huge thank you to Julian Caldwell and the for capturing ThePod by CocoaCompassionThe Pod’s mission—chocolate and poetry as change agents. 🍫✍🏾

The Pod isn’t just about selling chocolate. It’s about valuing people—from cacao farmers who deserve fair pay to the artists, poets, and community members who find healing here.

Special thanks to Westchester County Poet Laureate whose poetry workshops and open mics show how words can be tools for justice, healing, and connection. She saw The Pod as a safe space—a place to reflect, feel, and express. That’s exactly what I always hoped it would be.

Like poetry, chocolate has layers. It can comfort or reveal, helping us reflect on fairness, origins, and impact. At its core, everyone just wants to be valued—and when we are, it changes how we show up for ourselves, our communities, and the world.
