We are hiring for multiple positions!
**Herdsperson and harvest labor**
Model Dairy is a 350 cow, 2000 acre dairy and crop farm located just outside of Dodgeville, WI. We have a 16 stall rotary parlor with freestall housing for the herd. Replacement heifers are raised across multiple rented sites, and excess heifers are freshened in and sold as dairy replacements to other herds. We utilize newer equipment in both our crop and dairy enterprises.
Positions we are looking to fill:
Herdsperson- This position would be a permanent full-time, salaried position. Normal schedule would Mon.-Fri. plus one half day most weekends. Duties would include care and treatment of fresh and sick cows, working in conjunction with our hoof trimmer to identify cows in need of hoof maintenance, weekly administration of timed a.i. injections and vaccinations, daily observation of calves and treatment intervention when needed. Candidates with an interest in genetics who would want to work with our mating service to improve the future of our herd would be a plus. Relief feed mixing and some help with general chores would also be required. No milking shifts or calf feeding duties. Bi-lingual speaking skills would be a plus, but not required, however, one must possess the ability to communicate effectively with our Spanish speaking employees through verbal or non-verbal means. We utilize an off-farm breeding service and hoof trimmer, although training in both areas would be beneficial. Starting salary based on experience and qualifications.
Harvest labor/general labor- This position would be a temporary full-time position during harvest, with the potential for the right candidate to become a permanent employee. Duties would require the ability to operate a variety of equipment during harvest including; grain cart, combine, semi, tillage and seeding operations, bunker packing and hauling loads with tractors. Basic mechanical skills and knowledge would be ideal. Starting hourly pay based on experience and qualifications. Minimum of 40 hours per week guaranteed through the end of harvest. Must be willing to work weekends and evenings as required during harvest. On days when we are not harvesting due to weather or other circumstances, shop work and help with general labor around the farm will be required.
