Big Momma wants to hatch some babies. Apparently, so does Carpet bagger( her patch work color reminds me of the old "carpet bag" suit cases like Mary Poppins carried.) Anyway. Big Momma has a dozen marked eggs to set..The hens keep.laying new ones in her next and marked ones have been.rolled all over, in and out of there nest..NOW a 2nd hen has joined and taken the majority of the marked eggs. My bets are big Momma tolerates that until they hatch, then she steals all the chicks back..Time will tell.

I've been letting littles out and keeping momma in to " train" the ducklings to return to the pen. Hopefully, when I start letting them all out, they'll go to pond in day and return to pen at night. Wishful thinking, but we can hope.

Episode 1. Our fair rancher, Sneaks up on baby June-Bug, while he sleeps in a secluded corner of the pasture, separate from herd. I got quiet a bit of petting in, until Momma May-Bee and auntie Rainlily ratted me out and told him I was there. See/ hear them talking to him?

Episode 3. Persistence pays off. Approaching, now awake June -Bug, while he is in quest of his dairy treat. Momma May-Bee tries backing him out of reach,but a few scratches and calm words and she decides it safe enough to let the fair rancher touch her little, again. June- bug is more worried about his snack than getting away, so if Momma says it's OK, then it's OK by him..

EPISODE 2. Approach the friendly Momma, Rainlily, from the side opposite where calf is having a milkshake at the dairy bar. Rub and pet Momma, then ever so slyly, lean over Momma and pet the calf from above. This only works with short cows, like our fabulous Dexter's. Little Polywog, thinks the pets are nuzzles and licks from Momma and barely acknowledges my existence. Rainlily, licks my hand and tries to get me to go back to scratching her .
