Not the farm, but it's VT!!! I absolutely want you all to visit the farm, but I want you to extend your trip with a stop at the champlain islands! Thanks to Jim, I was able to have a bday getaway to south hero, grand isle, north hero and isle lamotte... about 26 miles from the Canadian border. I met the most extraordinary people who are creating the most amazing things, all while keeping the health of VT and our beautiful planet in mind! The islands and the lake are gorgeous! Some of my faves: the banana stand, the Saturday farmer's market, kraemer and kin brewery and pizza, Muriel's knits (all made with VT wool!), snow farm vineyard and their concert series, the causeway (10 miles to Burlington- a bike rider's dream!), butternut Hill camp area trails, the migratory swallows birdhouses and the castle tour! Two other "must visits" are located a bit south, in Vergennes, vt: lulu ice cream and daily chocolate. Both women-owned and both so incredibly delish! You have to try the award winning basil ice cream! We stopped at both on the way to the islands and on the way home! Definitely a worthwhile trip!

Thank you, Fred!!! The farm's big project of 2026: the driveways... all of them! Fred, of Mason Excavation, did a beautiful job. (He's previously done all of the dry paddocks for the horses and the parking areas.) No more potholes!!! I love how Fred improved the pond house's turn-around area and maintained all the gentle curves! Work completed on time for the summer season ahead! The farm is looking quite posh!

Quiz time! Anyone recognize who's making this call???? This little guy has been hanging out on the farm, next to catie's field, for about two weeks now. Very exciting! I was finally able to see him after taking this vid! Turn up your volume!

New business alert! This woman-owned business in Manchester has just opened and I think it's going to be a very popular spot! Walk-in crafting, group classes for children and adults, private events... they offer it all! I love, of course, the owners' efforts to be green and incorporate nature into art! I also love that the local artist community is being tapped to teach classes. (You can find a small sampling of artists' creations for sale.) An open, inviting area to spend some time working with the right side of your brain! They're also in the process of creating a "splat" room where you can go wild with paint and canvas! Definitely plan a visit when you're in town!

Earth Day is a priority here every day at the farm! So thrilled with our solar array, thank you Same Sun, and with our heat pumps and electric water heaters. (I have not bought propane in two years!) The plantings continue, with the focus now on native plants. I have seen what plants the birds and insects are drawn to and they're definitely native! So far, in 2026, we have planted the pond house's and main house's Christmas trees, bare root colombine and great angelica. This past fall, thank you Bruce, the farm left all of its leaves on the ground, to feed and protect the soil and many, many insects and critters. Guess what, the grass is growing in beautifully! We prepped the location for the planting of a ball&burlap tree, thank you jim, hoping for a scarlet oak! Vermont's animals have been coming for visits! To date we've seen: fox, porcupine, turkeys, deer, bats and a "just passing through", thankfully, skunk. The birds are busy laying eggs and the buds are popping! Looking forward to a busy spring on this gorgeous planet! 🌎

Una has resumed her farm dog duties! That means spring has returned to vermont! Annual fence maintenance is underway, the fields have been dragged (thank goodness!), the crocus planted for Birdie and Coco have popped, the chickens are rolling in the dirt and laying beautiful eggs, the horses are sunbathing (diva scared the beejeezus out of me), the bats are starting to move back into their boxes and Jim Van Gilst has done SO MUCH project work that it would take me a day to write it all out! The pond house is all booked for August (and foliage, of course!), but June and July still have availability. Hope to see you in 2026!

You are right! This is definitely not vermont! My daughter and I just returned from an AMAZING trip to Iceland! One of the highlights was, of course, the Icelandic horses! These are the hardiest horses I have ever encountered! They live out in the harshest of conditions and are so very content! We were supposed to have gone riding in husavik, but due to all the snowstorms, they had to cancel. As we were making our way southwest, we discovered a farm just outside of Borgarnes. They are listed on Airbnb! Oddsstadir. The owner was so kind to take us out riding on very short notice. The horses were all so happy and hairy! So mellow and really just incredibly adorable. If you are ever in Iceland, definitely stay at this farm and go riding! They have horses for all abilities. 120 horses! There's even a beautiful waterfall on the farm! (Diva would like to live this way... wild and free like an Icelandic horse, but with her fan and fly curtains! 😂)

It's that time of year again! We'll see how the season goes... the temps are all over the place! Posted a pic of the hole from last year's tap and then another that has had more time to heal. Trees are so amazing! Big thanks to Jim Van Gilst , for trudging out in the snow and cold with me to help make this happen!!!! 🍁 I always run out of syrup, so if you'll be visiting the farm this year and would like me to save some for you, please let me know!

Another reason to love vermont!

The ski resort bought the land for $2.5 million Tuesday. It plans to conserve and maintain the land for backcountry use.

SO. SO. BUSY!!!!! the holiday was extremely active and entertaining with this "return" family! Beautiful sun and snow made for tons of winter fun on the farm. LOTS of love was shared for valentine's... thank you for that! The only fail was the "deworm Diva with a jelly donut" experiment! 🍩
