What does it look like to do this? First you need a freezer that is able to hold the massive amount of meat you get back. Next you need to find a local farmer. Make friends with the farmer and get on their list. It takes approximately two years to raise a calf to harvest weight. So sometimes there is a waitlist. Next wait for the call from your farmer that your beef is headed to the processor. Pay your farmer for the hanging weight and fill out your cut sheet with the processor. Finally wait for the call from the processor that your beef is ready! (Usually around two weeks) Pay your processor and take your beef home. Have all the delicious hamburgers, steaks, and roasts your family can eat. I can’t guarantee prices in your area with your farmer. BUT I compared our beef - cut for cut / pound for pound to our local grocery store….We saved a little over $1000 buying from our local farmer. If you are local go see Rocky Hollow Charolais and get on the waitlist. You won’t regret it!
