We had an intense storm pass through yesterday, with tornados predicted in our area. Praise God for His goodness to us! We got a lot of rain and wind, but no damage. What encouraged us the most, was all of you who checked in on us. We are so thankful for this little community that the Lord is building through LuNa Family Farm.

Welcome to the farm little one! We are hatching out some chicks to be the garden clean up crew. When they’re old enough to be out of the brooder, they will be moved into the garden and enjoy all the leftovers once the frost kills our annual plants. Keeping chickens in our garden during the “off season” also helps with pest control and fertilizer for next year’s crops. Our goal is to build better soil and have as much biodiversity as possible to be able to grow nutrient dense food for our family and community!

Sometimes the odd ones are the most spectacular! Don’t forget that you are a child of the King. Created uniquely, in God‘s image, to honor and glorify him in a way that only you can. Let’s stop comparing to everybody else and give yourself permission to be you.

Bottle gourds, or birdhouse gourds, are another fun plant to grow with beautiful white flowers! One single plant can be massive, and vine all over. We would recommend trellising, or letting it grow up your tree line, because it will take over your garden if you let it! The vine looks beautiful on the fence, I’ll try to post a video soon.

We moved our sweet Sugar to fresh grass, and put the sheep together for breeding. Come March we should have lots of babies on the farm. Just in time for our spring Baby Animal Days!

Have you ever heard of the Chinese python snake bean? They are a gourd relative with beautiful white flowers that really make you stop for a closer look. The fruit is similar to a green bean, but should be picked when is between 1 to 2 feet long. If you let them mature further they look like a snake and the red pulp inside can be used like tomato paste. Unfortunately, they are unknown in U.S. markets because their shape and delicate nature doesn’t work well for shipping.
