On Wednesday, May 27th, our beloved, Michael Stachecki Sr., the godfather and owner of The Little Grocer, passed away peacefully at his home.

Anyone who has blessed us with their business over the past 42 years has known "Mr. S" in some capacity. An extremely influential person on the community and those who knew him best, Michael has passed down a legacy that his sons, grandsons and great grandchildren can only try their best to carry on.

Playfully harassing the customers as soon as they step foot into the store, lending a hand to those in need and offering his infinite wisdom and advice to all the employees and friends who've spent time in our little store; we wouldn't have wanted anything different from "Big Mike," and he wouldn't have wanted it any other way as well.

Forever in our hearts and memories. Whether you knew him from the old farming days, his time with DDover Police Department-Delaware fishing, skiing, Dover Little League, or his time here with all of us at the store; he was there to put smile on your face. And to us, he always will.

Our store wouldn't be here today with our "Mommom and Poppop," and we will always hold dear the principles that many patrons have grown accustomed.

We will be closed on Friday, June 5th in respect to Michael and all of the family. A viewing for friends and family will be held at Trader Funeral Home (12 Lotus St. Dover DE 19901) Friday from 10:00-11:30AM

Our post yesterday was about starting conversations and a bit of a PSA to all our friends and family in the neighborhood.

There is no place for race talk, and anything not constructive, is not useful.

Thank you to Dover Police Department-Delaware as always.

We want to say thanks to everyone who has reached out and to those who will push to make a difference in our community.

This was never about this man, and if he needs help, we hope he gets it. Nonetheless, we hope he is held accountable and that everyone else in the neighborhood starts to do so. It starts small.

Arrested for multiple burglaries.
Released on unsecured bond.
Re-offended within days, committing another burglary at The Little Grocer.

In less than a week, the same suspect was arrested twice in connection with five burglary cases.

This case highlights ongoing concerns with repeat offenders and release conditions. If this concerns you, we encourage you to stay informed and engaged through appropriate civic channels.

We will continue to do our part—working hard to keep our community safe and holding offenders accountable.

Very early this morning we had someone (pictured) break into our shop, breaking the front door and attempting to steal.

It saddens us deeply that these things are happening more and more in our neighborhood, and the lack of response and care there seems to be in the community and in our city.

We realize that this could have been worse, and we have had much worse happen. But these types of things happen weekly and they’re completely overlooked, undershared, and frankly, ignored.

Our family business started over 40 years ago and we have always been helpful to those in the community, the neighborhood, local organizations and other businesses.

We are asking for our friends, family and neighbors to seek out the change they actually want and SPEAK UP.

If you live nearby and you hear an alarm going off for twenty minutes, look out the window, call someone, check on someone.
If you know this person, call and report who it is, please.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, if you have a chance to hold people accountable for doing something wrong, do your job and do that.

When the city, its officials, the mayor, and even some of the residents stop caring, and they look the other way, and stop holding people accountable, things only get worse. And what this ultimately leads to (and we’ve all seen it happen before), is GOOD people leaving a city, leaving a community because the ones in charge and making a difference are not doing a very good job.

Thank you to those of you from Dover Police Department-Delaware who showed up quickly after the alarm. The officers have always been there for us, and much of the community; they can only do so much without real change in the community and leadership
