We had some rather stylish help refilling our supply of ground beef this weekend. The kids also wanted to see the sides hanging in the cooler waiting to be processed into our beef bundles. The best part of doing this crazy thing we're doing is getting to witness the world through their eyes.

One of our planned projects didn't turn out as intended this year so we did what all farmers do best, pivot! This sorghum sudangrass was intended to be a stockpiled swath grazing experiment but the plants started going down during our late summer storms so in order to salvage the available forage we started strip grazing it. While it may not have extended our grazing season this winter, it has allowed for some extra rest in our perennial cool season pastures which should now allow us to stay on them until the cornstalks are ready for grazing.

We kicked off the 2025 calving season this week with this heifer calf sired by PCC Gold Standard. It took a while to find out where she was or if she even existed, one of the downsides to calving in sync with nature

We turned cows out onto pastures this week. They sure were excited for fresh grass!

This past week we had the opportunity to host a pasture walk for our local Hay River Watershed group. After a meal of our very own smoked brisket, we discussed a variety of topics ranging from paddock rotation, stocking density, government incentives to assist with implementing upgrades to infrastructure, and general challenges often experienced when setting up a rotational grazing system.
