Well, been an interesting 24 hours. two 5+ Earthquakes not far from our Ranch. The house shook for a few seconds, making the dogs make some noise but no one was hurt. We also had an earthquake centered in Doyle but it wasn't very strong. The chickens got a short spa treatment and our sleep was stopped cold but all is good here now. hope everyone has a great day.

Our family saying is that "Life is an Adventure". It is so true! We went to Tractor Supply in Susanville yesterday to pick up feed for the flock and we hear kitten cries coming from the pallets of feed. We looked and looked, there was an associate who said they had a cat roaming around the store and if we catch her we could keep her. Chance and Kat looked in the middle of the pallet and there were 4 tiny newborn kittens. Just recently born and their eyes weren't even open yet. The staff helped us get them out and into a cage in hopes of catching the mama. We offered to take in the mama and babies if Lassen Animal Shelter wouldn't take them. Well, the animal shelter wouldn't take them so as we were headed back home we got the phone call that they were ours and needed to be picked up. After a quick trip to get supplies we headed back to Tractor Supply and now are the owners of a mama cat and her 4 kittens. The mama is named Pallet (Kat chose the name) and one of the kittens will be named T.S. (for Tractor Supply) The other three kittens will be up for adoption once the kittens are 8 to 10 weeks old. First dibs goes to the tractor supply crew and everyone else after that. We will share the progress as they grow. Love having the opportunity to rescue animals and give them a fighting chance at a good life.

What do you do when you have chics that are too big for the broody box but it's too cold for them outside? You buy a 3 person tent at a yard sale for $5 and make that their new home! Very roomy inside and not worried anymore about them being in with the days old chics. Tomorrows plan is to make roosting bars out of PVC pipes so they have something to play on.
