Good Morning!
There’s a lot that goes on here behind the scenes at Home Grown. We have a lot of vendors, place a lot of orders, and are continually sourcing new products.
Hands down local and farm-fresh is best. I was just in Colorado for a family reunion and my sister-in-law is having health issues. She is going against conventional advice this time.
We discussed new supplements she trying, lifestyle changes, etc. She started saying that she was cleaning up her diet and I asked her if she knew of any local farms close to her.
I told her how the bigger “farmer’s market”/ “natural” stores are all sourcing meat, eggs, etc. from the same pot as the other big box stores. They just slap different labels on it. Sure, it’s all USDA organic, but that really means nothing and everything if you truly know how that works.
While I taught somebody something, I also had the opportunity to learn. We had stopped off for lunch in a shopping district and spied a shop that had an "organic clothing" sign in the window. The name of the shop is Snow in Longmont, Co.
I went in, looked around, and struck up a conversation with the owner. She was more than happy to help a fellow businesswoman in Texas with sourcing. I learned a great deal about the organic textile industry in America and internationally right now. Her focus is American-made.
She shared how the Texas cotton crops have taken a hit and thus the American organic cotton industry. She showed me a lot of small brands of very well-made clothes from American designers.
I have my notes and will start chipping away at those and the million others I have while trying to keep up with the pace of consumer demand.
I also think it’s time to start talking about sourcing more. There is so much the public does not understand that we experience behind the scenes everyday and the things we have learned.
We were blasted in a local social group recently for the price of the products we carry from local farms. Many of you came to our defense. We thank you for that.
One person asked if there was really a demand for what we do. Yes, there is. You are proof!
We are working our tails off behind the scenes to keep up with you! We truly appreciate the response we’ve had from the community and we look forward to seeing you again this week!
