πŸπŸ’›πŸ Honored + Excited to share that I'm the new VP of Texas Natural Beekeepers Association

Hi! I'm Whitney, and I am the farmer + beekeeper Blue Butterfly Farm ~ an organic family farmstead in Dripping Springs, TX where I live, love + work with my husband, 2 kids, 3 dogs, 4 cats, 1 pig, 1 peahen, 1 rabbit, countless chickens + bountiful bees!
Our apiary has 5 colonies of bees in top bar hives that I built with observation windows + we have been tending to the bees naturally and treatment-free ever since we began our bee adventures 6 years ago.

I am passionate about connecting people with Nature, and educating others about the importance + benefits of working with nature organically and sustainably. In addition to beekeeping, I focus on growing + wildcrafting medicinal plants to create Bee Better Balm, tinctures, teas, and hydrosols.

I am SO excited to collaborate with you all to protect our pollinators + preserve our precious Planet!

πŸπŸ’§πŸ Riders on the Storm
The Texas Sage is blooming + that means rain... YAY! Leucophyllum frutescens, also known as the Barometer Bush, has traditionally been used to predict rain because it's brilliant purple flowers bloom before the coming storms.

πŸπŸ‘» BeeBusters Part 2
If the weather is right
To catch a swarm in the night
Who you gonna call?
BeeBusters!

Another awesome beeventure in the books!

After relocating the swarm of bees that had set up camp in my neighbor's owl house, we went back at night to collect the bees who had been out foraging when we moved their makeshift home.

Using the Everything Bee Vacuum, invented by Tony Andric, was a super cool + surprisingly gentle way to gather the bees + bring them back to their sisters! Thanks, Tony!

And huge honey hugs to Stephanie for such a fun + busy week of bee bustin' :)

🐝 Happy World Bee Day! 🐝
We were busy bees yesterday capturing a swarm of bees from my neighbor's owl box + transferring it to a new hive at Blue Butterfly Farm!

The bees had swarmed from the farm last week + set up camp in Scott's owl box (ironically, he had just helped me build 2 new beehives a few weeks ago).

So...
We lowered the owl box full of bees down from the tree ~ 16 feet up on a ladder with a big box o' bees blowing in the wind is quite exhilirating! ...

Drove the owl bee box back to the farm...

Disassembled the box + cut out 6 combs full of bees + honey to find the queen...

And 6 hours later... successfully transferred all the bees into their beautiful new home!

πŸπŸ’›πŸ Huge honey hugs to Stephanie , Scott + Deb for all their amazing help getting Queen Persimmon + her crew happily back to Blue Butterfly Farm!
