Monday Market Insight for our customers abroad.

Last week lightweight calves remained strong in demand with the highest action being in 300-400 # weight class pushing our #1 steer and bull calves up in the $2.00-$2.20/lb range. Heifers in the $1.70-$1.80 mark. We were able to assemble some fancy calves worth the money for our customers out west and this week will be no different!

Big opportunities for buyers in the 500-600 # bull calves right now. They are heavy in supply but were low in demand last week. A 480 # bull calf delivers to Oklahoma/KS for almost the exact same dollars per head as their 580-600 # brother. Take advantage of this opportunity if you have a spot to start a big calf.

A 450-550 # heifer was overvalued to most other classes last week delivering for as much or more than the bull brothers. This week may be a different opportunity there, but last week was highly saturated in bids. If you're looking for a heifer calf, the 400 # & 600 # heifer missed the cards in a lot of places last week and were of good value.

For you fancy calf hunters we saw some good ones this past week. 400 # steer calves delivered for $208-210 last week, 600 # steers in the $170s, 350 # heifers in the $170s, 350 # bulls for $210, 700 # Bulls in the $140s.

We are excited to reveal our newest team member here at Barrett’s! Meet Dakota Davis of Waukomis, Oklahoma and his family.

Dakota came to us as a customer a few years ago buying a load of calves for one of his customers in Oklahoma. After talking for almost weekly for over a year, he made the trip out to see us this June on a ”work-cation” filling in for local auctioneer Chris Pinard who was on the WLAC trail. After placing several loads of calves with his customers back in Kansas/Oklahoma and seeing the results of those calves in their operation, we began discussing a partnership of sorts moving forward!

Dakota and his family came on board following the 4th of July break as a marketer and procurement agent for Barrett’s Livestock and the rest is a future that looks bright for all of us! He continues to live in Oklahoma where he owns and operates two livestock markets and partners with a pre-conditioning yard in Kansas to start the calves we ship from our state.
