Seems like overnight it’s all systems go over here at the farm! Been really busy preparing beds, adding compost to them and pulling weeds. Yesterday we planted spinach, baby lettuce and kale, and Swiss chard - a 50ft row is ready for peas and we’ll be transplanting hardy veggies out this week (and possibly even tomatoes). The ground is looking amazing.

If you’re around this coming Saturday 5/14 from 12-4pm we’ll be hosting a work party. DM me or comment below if you’re down to come help! TIA. 🙌🙌

It feels like Spring is finally making its way to the Northland and our first above 50 degree day felt amazing! The snow was melting, birds are starting to flutter about and we even noticed small amounts of green in our perennial garden spaces (nettles, sage, thyme, oregano, yarrow and more). We spent some time pruning our apple trees, broadcasting trace minerals on our field and cleaning up our trellis systems.

To mark the Equinox, we also stirred and sprayed our Buffalo Field Activator from to give our offerings to the land for the season ahead. Our intentions today were to acknowledge our place here on Earth and to ask for balance, health and abundance this year, calling in the elements of warmth and light to aid us in growing. This simple yet extremely powerful ceremony helps us deepen our connection to our farm, while connecting us to countless other people world wide who are taking part in these synchronized sprays in the effort to heal the world. ✨✨✨

This year we will continue to incorporate Biodynamic principles and practices into our daily routines and we invite you to explore them too to see how they might support the rhythm of your own life and gardens. Our next stir and spray will be around May 1 with the continued intentions of enlivening our soil and bringing balance to our farm.

Just a few more months and the gardens will be green again! We’re shifting gears going into this next season, taking things a little slower and more relaxed. We’ll still be offering wholesale flowers to our partners here in Duluth and have some exciting, more community focused, plans in the works for our veggie production. We’ll also be diving deeper into Biodynamics and continuing to enliven our soils ✨✨

If you’re in the area and want to connect or contribute to our work, reach out and let’s chat!

With Fall upon us here in the northland, we’ve been busy clearing out beds and cleaning up the farm in preparation for winter. Over the last month as we removed summer crops, we planted a cover crop mix and this week we disassembled our irrigation system and did the final harvest of tomatoes and squash.

Tonight we sprayed our last Biodynamic preparation of the year, offering BD500 (Horn Manure) to the soil. During our stir and spray, we gave thanks to the land for nourishing us this season, for giving us an abundance of beautiful flowers and fruits and for teaching us valuable lessons not only about farming but about ourselves.

Beyond our gratitude, we set intentions for the winter and next season, asking for protection against deep freezes, rest and recharge of the soil and for enlivened soils to meet us again when the ground thaws.

Nothing feels more like Fall than fresh pressed apple cider. We had a fairly good harvest (lost some to the birds and only about half our trees fruited) and with the help of was able to press all of our apples within days of picking.

Beyond all the cozy fall feelings apple cider brings me, pressing juice today brought up lots of great memories of my time back in northern Arizona with and all the seasonal apple craziness we dealt with (and encouraged 😂) every year. 🍎🍁✨☀️
