For those who think this will save $, wrong. Furlough means they will get paid all of their backpay when the shutdown is over. So we're actualy paying people not to do their jobs. This is only a small fraction of federal employees that have been furloughed or on forced paid administrative leave since early 2025.

Perhaps the plan is to keep the government permanently shut down. It would be a very painful, but perhaps needed, lesson on what the government does to make everyday life work.
