Over the last month our hearts have been a bit sad at the farm. Sometimes loving our farm friends comes at the huge cost of dealing with tough things. About a month ago we started to deal with a “predator” problem. If you know our operation here- all of our chickens get to live out their lives completely on pasture following cattle or the horses and goats. They explore fields and woods and free range / free forage for all their food. I don’t typically feed my chickens. They do get high protein and soy free treats and some supplemental scraps. They have a comfy indoor protected coop and come and go as they please during daylight hours- until recently. A month ago it began- our favorite and best rooster died in the line of duty fighting to protect his hens against a fox. 6 others were also injured or killed this day. The sad truth of farming in some instances. I know some people will come to say- why don’t you do this and that, but this is how we choose to let them live in our circle of life- and we are currently providing as much protection as possible. Unfortunately during this time we’ve lost over 50 chickens of our flock- so if you visit the farm, our chickens are not currently roaming like they usually do . 😢 I’m trying to protect what we have left - BUT my eggs won’t be as readily available until I can grow my flock again and trap and relocate my issue around the barn. This post is also in memory of our beautiful little friends that have made us laugh, kept us company on walks, and served us breakfast the last few years. Rip Uh OH and all your girls 🖤

Who doesn’t love homemade and handcrafted?! If you make something special we are hosting a small Maker’s Market at Martins Garden Center July 9th from 6:30-9pm and we would love for you to join us! Think canned goods, jams, candles, soaps, balms, hot pads, dish towels, potted plants, etc! This is a free event but each guest must preregister to attend as spaces are limited. Each guest must also bring an appetizer or dessert to share with other guests & bring an item for each other maker! Example: If there are 20 guests, you will make 20 of your item. We all get to swap our homemade items and leave with one of each! Don’t wait to register. When dispensing liquid laundry please be mindful to completely close the red k**b to the left so that detergent doesn’t leak out. This helps me keep the cost of product as low as possible so I don’t have a loss ❤️ you should be able to see the holes in the tube facing front with no drips after filling and closing! Thank you 😊
