We wish all fathers a Happy Father's Day!

And an even bigger shout out to Nathan, the man of the farmstead. He's a dad, a Grumpy grandpa, and an amazing friend to many in the neighborhood and beyond.

He may look crabby and grumpy (hence his nickname haha) but he has a gruff heart of gold. From helping first time heifers deliver calves to gently putting chicks in the brooder box to hugging and comforting his granddaughter, he's an amazing father and grandfather!

Happy Father's Day Grumpy!

What better way to bond with your show cow than daily pampering and lovings!

Mootilda and the Feral Farm Child (we don't mention her name for safety) are going to be at the Rice County Fair with Mootilda's calf Moo-luer this July! Mootilda is already an in your pocket cow so the Feral Farm Child keeps that bond with daily grooming. She also spoils Mootilda with treats and cuddles. What a life!

Moo-luer, on the other hoof, is a very spunky free willed pain in our butts! He does not like attention, acts as if being touched is like acid, and is very stubborn and determined to not be swayed with any attention. However we are more stubborn and have been catching him for halter breaking, a very good full body workout, and being used to being handled.

If you're driving by on I35 and see any adult trying to drag a stubborn calf around don't worry. It's just us halter breaking Moo-luer!

Yesterday it was raining like crazy!

Gypsy decided she wanted a mud bath.... When we needed a picture of her for the fair... Really?!

Thankfully our 4H extension office just laughed it off and used her muddy pictures!

How many of you have animals you need to get a nice picture of and they decide to get filthy? Tell us in the comments so we can all bemoan and laugh over their antics!

Oh man have we been so busy lately 😫

Now that life has slowed down a wee bit we'll get back to our normal posting. For now, enjoy a picture of silly Moo-luer the mini bull calf charging towards our hair ram Tank!

When your house bottle baby goat is so tired from playing and following you all day, she takes a ☠️ nap to scare the wits out of you!

Muffin had a very big day earlier this week with getting dehorned with all her sisters then following everyone around while we cleaned around the farmstead and the gardens. She was so tired that she scared us into thinking she passed! Thankfully she woke up, glared at us, then went right back to sleep 🤣

Our oldest donkey Diane is just amazing with all the baby farm animals ❤️

Can you believe this kill pen rescue turned out to be just the best thing ever?! She was our first step into donkeys, completely unprepared besides what we saw on Facebook posts, and we got lucky!

Since getting her we've learned a great deal of things!

-Not all donkeys do well with other livestock. Some will harm and ☠️ their smaller pasture or dry lot mates.
-Donkeys aren't guard animals. Some are extremely protective of their hers or flock and will defend them but most will run off. They're much better sentry animals than guard animals.
-Their diet is completely different than horses and ponies! Donkeys process much more of their food compared to horses and ponies which is why they can founder so much easier. It makes sense since they are a desert animal and every calorie counts.
-They're pretty darn smart! The reason they seem stubborn is because they are processing and deciding if they want to do what you're asking them. Calm, consistent ground work makes them extremely reliable and they rarely forget what they learn.
-Anyone who gets a donkey should make sure they are halter broke AND will let a farrier handle their feet. That goes back to our previous point about how smart they are. As an owner, however, these two basic handling needs should be taught so they can be handled in case of any scenario.
-Two donkeys are better than one and none is better than one! Donkeys are very social animals but they still do best with another donkey. They take time to groom each other, keep watch so the other can sleep, and everyone needs that one best friend who's with you. In our case, we have an amazing mother daughter duo!

We love our donkeys and can't imagine the farmstead without them!

If you have donkeys, what's something YOU wish someone told you when you first got them?

Mootilda had a boy!!!

Our mini cow Mootilda finally gave birth today after making us all wait anxiously. She had an easy birth without any assistance and already had him all cleaned up and nursing when we discovered them!

We'll be doing his name reveal later this week!

We've been so busy between all the baby goats, staring at our sheep and Mootilda impatiently, and finding this cutie in the cow lot!

Luna had an adorable little heifer, the first of the calving season! We just adore her little face!!! 😍

Her dad is from Rood Family Bull Rental and we are already overjoyed at what he produced with Luna and what his next calves from us will look like 🤩

Our oldest goat, Waffles, had two adorable goat kids! However one of them, a little doe, should have been kept in a little longer as she wasn't ready compared to her brother. Don't worry! We have her in the house on a bottle because she couldn't regulate her body temp like her brother or stand well to nurse.

Every day we milk Waffles and one of our other does Skye to make sure Muffin, which is what we named her, has plenty to drink! Skye has a little buck who decided he likes to nurse on one side over the other. We're sure some of our mom followers know the feeling 🤣

In a few days we'll be spamming everyone with baby goat pictures till our sheep begin lambing and our mini cow calves!
