The whole farmstead was shocked yesterday when we learned the news Dolly Parton had passed 😞

We are all Dolly fans here from her music to movies to books. When we first got cattle we even had one named Dolly Mooton as a nod to Dolly Parton. The farmstead daughter got many of her first books from the Imagination Library and one of her favorite books is still a Dolly Parton story book.

Rest in peace Dolly πŸ’”

The boys are in jail!

Don't worry, they're only being "punished" for being too alluring to their girls. We don't want any winter babies so it's jail time for them!

Blaze and Bullet are our two purebred Kiko bucks and Tank is our, well, tank of a hair ram mutt. Both senior boys have had beautiful babies and this will be Bullet's first breeding season!

Do you want to learn more about pigeons?
Experience a real pigeon show?
Chat with experts of different breeds to learn what breed you may love?

Do you want to join us in the fair show ring next year?!

We will be posting all available swap and show dates for pigeons! We'll also be sharing the date for the Brown County Poultry Show for those who want to see a real chicken show and see how the next step do it. We don't want to call them the big dogs since everyone with chickens and pigeons have a chance to compete in those shows but may not have the time!

Be sure to give us a follow or a like to see all the swap and show posts so you stay in the know.
Of course the next swap on our schedule is the Waverly Exotic Swap where you'll see critters you couldn't believe as well as the ones in your own backyard!

Little Moo-luer had fun at the fair, we hope 🀣 He only threw one tantrum where he knocked over the water bucket and slipped out of his halter, which we scrambled to put back on after he went running to the nearest humans to save him!

Sadly we won't be able to keep Moo-luer once he's at weaning age. We want to let everyone know he'll be ready for a new farm at that time!

Moo-luer is a bit of a mishmash micro mini cow! Mootilda is half Dexter, quarter mini Charlias, and a quarter mini Longhorn (we don't see that in her haha) and his dad is a micro mini Belted Galloway. That means he'll be on the smaller side of mini cows. Hopefully he stays small enough to be a micro mini!

His dad is tested and we plan to test Mootilda. As we're writing this, the mutation that the test is used to detect is escaping us πŸ˜… Please bear with us, our brains are still befuddled from fair week!

What we get for Moo-luer, which you'll have to message to ask, will be going directly into Feral Daughter's 4H fund. Her ribbon auction earnings will also go into that fund. This fund is for her to use, with our supervision, to get what she needs to go farther in showing cattle, dairy goats, and meat goats! With our and Moo-luer's help more will be added to the fund so she can do more. Maybe get a Mini Hereford? Maybe some pure dairy goats? Please help us if she wants to get the full set up for showing cattle πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« Where would we even put it?!

Anyways! If you saw Moo-luer at the Rice County Fair and want him to join your family let us know!

If you weren't but have seen Moo-luer's antics on our page, still send us a message with all your questions!

For those who don't know, we are located near Dundas, MN so check the distance to see if it's within your range!

Side note, we are working on getting a website up with at least the bare minimum for everyone to find out details about our animals seeking new homes that we can't put here. Wink wink nudge nudge!

When it's your first year being a real 4H kid you learn a lot!

Feral Daughter has been showing as a real 4H kid this year and she and us have been learning like crazy! She got excellent feedback from the Dairy Goat judge about what she needs to look for in a dairy goat to show, learned from other kids what they look for in both goat classes, and how to clip and groom her future show goats in both classes.

Was she bummed that she didn't get to talk to the judge? Yeah. Is she keeping her chin up and learning while deciding what classes to do next year? Oh yeah! Is she still going to bring Saturday even though she does have some faults? Yep because we can't talk her out of it 🀣

4H and shows aren't just about winning and ribbons. Sure those are fun to get but they aren't everything. It's about gaining confidence, learning how to act before a judge and crowd, and caring for show animals through every step. It's about taking feedback and instead of being upset, using it to do better next year or next show. It's also about getting the chance to let people see your adorable animals that normally wouldn't!

If you see a 4H kid looking a little bummed out because they didn't do as well as they thought, tell them they still did an awesome job and they'll do better next year. A little encouragement from people other than family really motivates these kids, especially if you tell them how adorable their animal is!

With the fair only having one day left, Sunday, here's to already getting ready for next year!

Congratulations to every kid who walked into that show ring no matter how they felt or how they did because that's an experience you won't get anywhere else! Having people from your home town or home county cheering you on from the stands!

Feral Daughter and Mootilda did the ribbon auction this morning and Mootilda had some complaints to share about it 🀣

A HUGE thank you to Community Co-Op Faribault for bidding and buying their ribbon! Every penny earned is going right back into Feral Daughter's projects for next year. She is currently in the talks with her grandpa about showing a Hereford along with Mootilda and it's looking good!

When we signed up Mootilda and Moo-luer for the fair, we sat FD down and explained that with both being Mini cattle, the chances of them winning against the big beef wasn't high. She took it like a champ, looked right at us, and said "I just want people to know that there are smaller versions of every big cow so anyone can have a cow if they have room" and that made us all so proud of her!

All the shows are now done. Now it's just time to wait to take all the critters home tomorrow, clean, and recover from fair week haha!

What a learning experience at the rabbit show!

Gator was not happy about getting flipped over by the judge and pitched a rabbit fit. So that was fun for Feral Daughter to carry him back 😬

Chai Tea was in the wrong class πŸ˜… So thankfully the Rabbit PDC switched him with no fuss!

Feral Daughter learned a lot from this show, placing blue in both classes, so she's excited for next year!

Way to go Feral Daughter and Mootilda!

She got Reserve Champion in the Pen Cow Calf in the Beef show on Wednesday!! She had a blast chatting with the judge and telling her all about Mootilda and Moo-luer!

Since she got Reserve Champion, she's been bothering her grandpa about letting her bring one of the Hereford girls next year too along with Mootilda. Think she'll wear him down?
