Holiday Traditions Begin at Christmas in Ida
The 43rd Christmas in Ida Festival and Parade of Lights kicked off the Holiday season with wholesome family entertainment and the Granddaddy of Light parades, the Christmas in Ida Parade of Lights.
The La-Z-Boy Family Concert Series filled the air with six concerts featuring thirteen performers and bands that headlined with country music stars Little Texas and Nicole Croteau.
Sophia Kreps & Brenner Nelson representing the Ida High School Student Council were crowned the 2025 Christmas in Ida Prince and Princess. The royal couple reigned over the festival and Parade of Lights.
The Parade of Lights had a 148 parade entries with 18 entries being judged on Parade Theme, Originality, Animation, Audio and Visual Effects, and Costumes. The two-hour parade was officiated by Bernie Ochs of Carroll Ochs Jewerlers, Dr. Holly Hardie of Great Lakes Vision Care,
Tiffany Toffen-Taormina of ITC Holdings, Dr. James Hardie of Pinnacle Eye Group, and Mike Grayczyk of Mannik and Smith.
The Dundee Veterans Memorial Color Guard and the Color Guard of the Monroe Composite Squadron Civil Air Patrol posted the American Flag and Lindsay Welch of Toledo, Ohio performed the National Anthem.
Marching bands included Airport, Erie-Mason, and Ida High School.
Santa and Mrs. Claus toured the parade route sitting high in their sleigh lead with four reindeer flying through the forest on a spectacular float presented by Electrical Services Plus Inc. Santa’s helpers were Dr. Stephen Bell and Mrs. Claus was Tara Althaus, and their elves were 2025 Miss Monroe County second and third runners-up Kynzie Riegel and Josephine Nicols.
Hosting the television and internet production were Jim Miller, and Dale Zorn with special guest host Corey Welch. Public parade announcers located on the north and south ends of the village included Michele Paled and Fireman Dave, and David and Irma Kubiske.

The annual Holiday Art on the Avenue show hosted artists that painted and exhibited fine art themed Let Heaven and Nature Sing presented by Family Medical Center of Michigan. Co-chairman’s Holly Zorn-Lindsey and Kristin Michalkiewicz announced the winning artists:
 Grand Prize – Carrie Hawkins
 First Prize – Brandy Ge**er
 Second Prize – Sacha Thebolt

In its 18th year, the Holiday Hounds on Parade presented by Amrize featured canines dressed in their Holiday finest in a parade of their own. Cheryl Wassus, Chairperson of the Holiday Hounds on Parade announced the winners of the Holiday Hounds on Parade:
 Most Adorable – Charlie, a Shih Tzu-Poodle owned by Michele Paled of Monroe
 Most Mammoth – Sufi, a Great Pyrenees-Maremma Sheepdog owned by Joe & Cheryl Majors of Milan
 Tiniest – Brutus, all American Mixed Breed owned by Breanna Brown of Toledo, OH
 Most Vocal – Scarlet, a Papichu owned by Joanna Brown of Toledo, OH
ï‚· Waggiest Tail - Gus, a Staffy Mix owned by Cameron Rigel of Monroe, MI
 Best Dog Pulling a Cart – Milo, a Lab owned by Lilly Helmstader of Dundee MI
Over 5200 visitors attended the indoor craft, and vendor shows held at the Ida Public Schools and the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church presented by Mall of Monroe and Knabusch Insurance Services. Kim Diven, Chairperson of the Ida Christmas Mall presented by Bakers Propane and Welding Supplies/ACE Hardware reported attendance was steady and shoppers were buying merchandise.
Lisa Opfermann announced the winners of the Light Up the Town Home and Business Decorating Contest
reporting it has become very competitive and creative. The winners are:
ï‚· 1st Place Residential - Brenda Wertenberger located at 8054 Ida Street. The display presents lots of familiar nostalgia in a comfortable cozy atmosphere where you would sit and enjoy a cup of cocoa.
 2nd Place Residential - Beverly Smith, located at 8101 Ida Street. The display is the whimsical fun children’s adventure from skating Santa to Gingerbreads and candy canes. It is a bright display.
ï‚· Best Decorated Business - Rusty Cup owned by Heath and Jamie Hunter on Lewis Avenue. The display is an inviting and welcoming Hallmark Christmas theme of fresh boughs, warm lights, and family atmosphere.
 Honorable Mention Business – Zorn’s Service Inc. located at 2855 Lewis Avenue. The display is an old-fashioned scene with Santa and truck mural.
