If you've ever been near a chick in distress, you know the siren-like chirp they use when they are unhappy, scared, in danger, cold, etc.

So I'm sitting in my office, trying to wrap it up and I hear this piercing chirping. And I think nahhhh one of the babies surely didn't wiggle through a hole and escape the run.

Wrong.

At least Louise was keeping an eye on her. Guess we will put some temp fencing around the bottom of the run. 🤪

Meet two of our Mottled Houdans! Here’s some fun facts about these girls:

🐥 Originally from west Paris, France, a town called Houdan.

🐥 In the 1850s they made it to Britain and in the 1867, they were shown in Worcester, Massachusetts.

🐥 They have a fifth toe on each foot.

🐥 Each time they molt, their feathers grow back whiter.

🐥 They’re known for their calm and friendly demeanor.

🐥 Unlike other large chicken breeds, Houdans are not prone to infectious diseases.

Last week, the first shipment of Spring chicks arrived at the farm, featuring Mottled Houdans, Silver Polish, and Golden Polish. Despite their small size, they are full of energy and sweet. Really glad they can live in the garage, I bought too many to keep in the guest room this year. 🤪

Placed our Spring chicken order this weekend 😍 Last year we went with more traditional breeds and this year we went with showy breeds... and Jonathan has really wanted Turkens, so we got some of those. They’re so ugly they’re cute (maybe?). And hopefully we have a garage to put them in this season and not the guest room. 🤣
