Mum planting will commence tomorrow! Tonight we laid the ground cover down and that is not a fun job. Throw in a stiff northwestern wind and it really makes it unpleasant 🤣.

Our U-cut flower patch is kicking it into high gear! That’s 1 acre that we have to hand w**d with a hoe and cultivate with our old Farmall Super A. It doesn’t take as long as you’d think, just as long as we keep up on it every couple of days. We’ve also got something really cool growing this year- Cotton. That’s right, the same cotton you’d find growing in an Alabama field! We’re hoping it grows well enough to be a nice addition to your bouquets, check it out in the third photo.

Be sure to join our mailing list to know when we’ve got workshops coming up! www.stilespumpkinfarm.com

Good evening folks! The pumpkins are really starting to take off 🎃. A lot of the plants have their first “true leaves”, some even two. We planted our third timing of sunflowers this evening 🌻 and got the cut flower patch cleaned up. You probably cannot tell that the kids got into the mulberries growing along the creek out back, can you 😆? Be sure to follow along for our cut flower updates, they’re moving along quickly!

Carter's Pumpkins 💔❤️‍🩹💙

—-

Last fall, we saved seeds from some of Carter's favorite pumpkin varieties.

I'd never saved pumpkin seeds before, so with a little hope and a lot of prayer, I Googled how to dry them, tucked them away in the fridge, and hoped for the best. We never did a germination test—we simply planted them in faith.

Tonight, seeing long rows of them sprouted and growing brought tears to my eyes but filled my heart in a way that's hard to describe. It’s a reminder to me that love, memories, and the impact someone leaves behind can continue to grow.

I look forward to seeing the pumpkins, and sharing them with people he loved, and our community, this fall. Our hope is to keep saving seeds and planting Carter's pumpkins year after year, carrying a small piece of his legacy forward on the farm.

We miss you, Carter Jones! 💔❤️‍🩹💙

What a crazy little storm that came in tonight ⛈️ ! We were putting the last of the electric fencing up and worked until the rain drops started falling, hoping to finish it up tomorrow after work. Juliette is very excited that her Indian corn plants have emerged from the ground, Indian corn bundles will be her and Coopers little project to sell this fall. I am very excited to see how our twin 30-inch row pumpkins perform this year. I wanted to switch up our planter to give us a wider row spacing between planter passes, to allow for additional w**d control measures mid-season if need be.
Hoping you all stayed safe during the storms this evening.

This is the most welcoming sight and the biggest relief, seeing little seedlings emerge from the soil. When you bury thousands of dollars in the ground, you’re never really at ease. But seeing them make their appearance brings out the “kid on Christmas morning” in us. We spent the morning pounding in 8 foot T-posts, starting to run deer fence around both of our pumpkin patches. We are running 5 electric strands this year, hoping it helps alleviate deer feeding on both the plants and the pumpkins. I think I can speak on behalf of all farmers- we are so thankful for the rain last Friday. With the moisture and heat, you can practically watch the plants grow!

Well, we did it! The cereal rye is crimped down and the pumpkins are sprayed. Now all that remains is to plant some field corn for corn stalk bundles, some Indian corn, and our mums. We are desperately hoping for the rain to hit us this Friday and Saturday, fingers crossed!!

The pumpkins are all in!! 👏🏻👏🏻

Two long nights but with Chloe’s help, we got it done! 🩷 Over the next night or two, Brian will get them all sprayed with pre-herbicides and get the rye rolled down, and then we’ll enjoy the rain this weekend. 👏🏻

Last fall, Nicole asked me if we had ever saved pumpkin seeds before, and if we could try to save some from the pumpkins Carter planted, and then re-plant them each season. I was honored and excited to try it out! 💙 Today, Chloe and I finished the 2026 planting season by planting 3 varieties of pumpkin seeds we saved from some of Carter’s favorites, in the same place all 3 of us planted last season. ❤️‍🩹

It was a beautiful night in the field, and a heartfelt way to honor someone we care so much about! We miss you, Carter Jones, and we felt you with us yesterday and today! 💔❤️‍🩹

What a night!! We didn’t get rolling til about 6 o’clock after work, but we managed to get fertilizer spread on the pumpkin fields and planted about 5 acres of jack-o’-lantern’s and stackers tonight. We’re about half done and really hoping to finish tomorrow after work. That will leave Wednesday for crimping down the cereal rye and spraying our PRE- herbicides. It’s truly the best feeling watching all of this equipment that we’ve built from scratch, put our bread and butter in the ground. Our new foam marker system worked just how we wanted tonight also, super cool! This is year number five no-tilling into rye and every year doing so, has been nothing short of a challenge. Here’s to hopefully one more day of planting, oh and then mums 😬. We have over 1,700 mums coming next week😳!

We are going into what is hopefully a short-lived dry spell, so this is one of the many times our nearly 80 year old Farmall Super A is a lifesaver. We are giving the cut flower patch a good drink of water plus some fertilizer tonight!
