Those first moments when a dog starts exploring the bubble are always fun for me!

I mentioned Marta M OShea from The Good Dog Training And Rehabilitation in my recent reel about clipping nails.

She and her husband are exceptional trainers with locations in Phoenix and Gig Harbor. I’ve been getting questions about board and trains lately but I’m not set up to offer that service at the time. If you’re in need, I cannot recommend them enough.

Ace and I were thrilled when Marta came to visit us in Gig Harbor when we were at PackLeader Farm for a trial in July.

I hope I’ll be seeing both her and Sean this winter when I’m down in the Phoenix area for a bunch of herding camps and trials.

My favorite boy Carl has been a very naughty boy during nail clippings, I just learned. 👿☹️

He was shoving his muzzle against his owners hand so hard trying to bite her during nail clipping that it was bruising her.

After a quick demonstration of the issue we got to work and miracles may or may not have happened 🤩👊

There is plenty of work that still needs to be done but I was pretty pleased on the progress we made today. 😍👏

Shoutout to Marta from The Good Dog Training And Rehabilitation whose “you will love it” petting technique worked like a charm today.

I also used a lot of no nonsense pressure & release to communicate some pretty strict boundaries.

If you watch to the end, you’ll see Carl is now terrified of me 🤪🤷‍♀️

Welcome to our Foundation Boot Camp Patreon!

I had some thoughts as I was wrapping up morning chores on why Cathy at SUMMERNY RANCH and I are creating this online community.

As is our style, this footage is unscripted and unedited. It's precisely the type of content you will find on the Patreon page!

A few off the cuff thoughts on why we created this Patreon page and how we hope it'll build community, offer education, and give you specifi

If I had to pick one quality that I really admire in people … and dogs … it would be grit!

Turns out my husband bought a book on that topic recently and I am really enjoying it!!

Stay tuned for more thoughts on building gritty dogs!!!

🙌🥰👊

Leadership, in our current culture, often gets a bad rap. Many view it as oppressive, selfish, harmful.

Personally, I’ve always thought of leadership as a gift we give, or service we engage in that serves others and helps them find their best.

Countless dogs with all manner of behavior issues, which get in the way of them living their best lives, are the simple and obvious results of a leadership vacuum.

These dogs simply don’t know how to behave properly in our world, and because of this they often live extremely small, stressed, micromanaged lives.

And this doesn’t just go for the obvious aggression cases—it goes for all behavior issues and challenges dogs face.

When we stop thinking of leadership as taking from our dogs and instead think of it as the ultimate gift—regardless of the issues—we create the first real opportunity for our dogs, and our lives with them, to transform.

PS, yes, most dogs don’t fit neatly into just one of these categories. They almost always have a combination of behavioral bits and pieces which are in flux, and which surface and recede moment to moment. Which is even more reason your guidance is necessary—because all of these bits and pieces need to be channeled, directed, and guided moment to moment by a wise outside source that has the best vantage point and the best insight. And that would be you… or it should be.

We are home!!!

We left home on July 2 for Wellington, Battle Ground, and Gig Harbor. We returned on August 2.

After a few days, we moved the livestock and camper over to SUMMERNY RANCH - Herding Trials, Camps, and Tours for a busy August and September of camps and trials.

We moved everything back on September 21.

It’s good to be home for a bit before November - April camps take us back on the road.
