If you've been searching for fresh farm eggs in Durant, Oklahoma, you've come to the right place. Welcome to Legacy Land and Livestock — a small family farm dedicated to raising happy hens and ducks and delivering the freshest eggs in Bryan County.

Our Story

Legacy Land and Livestock was built on a simple belief: good food starts with good land and good care. We're not a factory farm. We're a hands-on operation where every bird has a name, a purpose, and plenty of room to roam.

Our hens and ducks are raised free-range, getting plenty of sunshine, fresh air, and room to roam. The result? Eggs with deep orange yolks, firm whites, and a flavor that store-bought eggs simply can't match.

What We Offer

- Farm Fresh Chicken Eggs — $4 per dozen. Rich, golden-yolked eggs from free-range hens.

- Farm Fresh Duck Eggs — $3 per dozen. Larger, creamier eggs perfect for baking and cooking.

If you've never tried duck eggs, you're missing out. At Legacy Land and Livestock, we raise both ducks and hens, and customers often ask us: what's the real difference? Let's break it down.

Size and Appearance

Duck eggs are noticeably larger than chicken eggs — about 20-30% bigger on average. Their shells are thicker and slightly more porous, which contributes to a longer shelf life. Colors range from white to pale blue to light green, depending on the breed.

Chicken eggs are the familiar standard — available in white, brown, blue, and green depending on the hen breed. Our free-range chicken eggs have a beautiful range of brown tones.

Taste and Texture

Here's where duck eggs really shine. They have a richer, creamier flavor thanks to a higher fat content. The yolks are larger and more vibrant, and the whites are thicker and more gel-like when raw.

Chicken eggs have a milder, more neutral flavor that most people are used to. They're versatile and work beautifully in any recipe.

What's the difference between duck eggs and chicken eggs? We compare size, taste, nutrition, and the best uses for each — from baking to breakfast.

Summer is here in Durant, Oklahoma, and things are busy at Legacy Land and Livestock. We wanted to give you a peek at what's happening on the farm this season — from the flock to the fields.

The Flock Is Thriving

Our hens and ducks are loving the longer days. More daylight means more foraging, more bugs to eat, and — yes — more eggs. Summer is our most productive season, and we've been seeing excellent laying rates from both the chicken and duck flocks.

The ducks, in particular, have been enjoying the warm weather. They spend their days waddling between their shelter and water features, and their eggs have been especially large and rich lately. If you've been thinking about trying duck eggs, now is the perfect time.

Free-Range Management

We rotate our birds through fresh ground on a regular schedule. This keeps the land healthy, gives the birds access to fresh forage, and naturally manages parasites and soil health.

You just picked up a dozen beautiful farm fresh eggs from Legacy Land and Livestock. Now how do you keep them at peak freshness? Proper storage makes a real difference — farm eggs can last significantly longer than store-bought when handled correctly.

The Bloom: Nature's Protective Coating

When a hen lays an egg, it comes out with a thin natural coating called the bloom (or cuticle). This invisible layer seals the shell pores and keeps bacteria out while slowing moisture loss. It's the egg's built-in preservation system.

Store-bought eggs are washed before sale, which removes the bloom. At Legacy Land and Livestock, we also wash our eggs before they go to you — it's part of our commitment to clean, safe, farm-fresh eggs. That means your eggs should be refrigerated for best quality, just like store-bought.

Room Temperature vs.

Learn how to store farm fresh eggs for maximum freshness. Covers the bloom, room temp vs fridge, the float test, and freezing tips.
