Prepping beds, planting strawberries, and getting ready for another season of local food here at LocaBerry.

If you want to eat with the seasons and support local agriculture this year, our LocaBox subscriptions are open. You help make this all possible. In return…

Weekly local produce straight from the farm and from some of my favorite grower friends.🍓

Introducing the 3rd newest peach going in the ground this season! Madison — a peach that helped bring peaches to the North.

Developed by Cornell University and released in 1961, Madison was one of the first peaches hardy enough to grow reliably in northern climates like New Hampshire.

Varieties like Madison are a big reason we can grow peaches here today.

It’s a classic old-fashioned peach — great for fresh eating, baking, and canning.

2 of 3 Newest Peaches Blushingstar — a white peach with a long history.

White peaches were once considered dessert fruit for nobility in Europe and Asia because of their incredibly sweet, low-acid flavor.

Blushingstar was developed by Rutgers University to grow well in northeastern orchards like ours, with good cold hardiness and beautiful fruit.

This is one you’ll want to eat right over the sink when it’s perfectly ripe.

We’re excited to be planting these at Emery Farm this spring.

Meet Saturn — the donut peach!

Flat peaches like Saturn were first grown in China more than 2,000 years ago and traveled across the Silk Road before eventually making their way to America. Since they are flat they were easy to dry and transport making them very popular.

The Saturn variety is known for being incredibly sweet with low acidity — many people say it tastes like peach candy.

We’re excited to be planting Saturn peaches this spring at — a new little piece of agricultural history coming to Durham.

Winter farming is mostly invisible work.

This cover crop growing in the tomato house right now (rye, oats, turnip) is building this summer’s soil. Next we’ll tarp it, let it break down, and plant over 10 varieties of tomatoes here.

Farming is funny like that — a lot of the work you do today you don’t see the results of for months, sometimes years.

If you eat with us this summer through the LocaBox CSA, a lot of what you’re eating is being grown, planned, or built right now.

Sign ups are open.
Summer will be here before we know it.
