Notice Regarding Coyote Hunts
The coyote hunting event season begins tomorrow. Many of these organized hunts are hosted by local organizations and fire departments as fundraising events. Participants are offered cash prizes or bounties for coyotes killed during the designated hunt period.
In recent years, coyote hunters using dogs have repeatedly entered WhisperHawk Farm property without permission. These hunters use dogs equipped with radio tracking collars to locate, chase, and corner coyotes. When the dogs cross onto private property, the hunters often follow. Their typical explanation is that they “cannot control where the dogs go” or that they are “just retrieving their dogs.”
Following dogs onto private property without permission could be considered trespassing. The fact that dogs are being tracked does not simply justify entry onto land where access has not been granted.
Some of these hunts offer substantial prize money, which may contribute to participants disregarding property boundaries.
While managing wildlife populations can be a legitimate objective, hunting with dogs for prize money is not permitted on WhisperHawk Farm property.
WhisperHawk Farm Policy:
Hunting with dogs on WhisperHawk Farm property is strictly prohibited.
Entry onto WhisperHawk Farm property for any reason requires prior permission.
Retrieving dogs does not grant permission to enter the property.
WhisperHawk Farm respectfully requests that organizations hosting and benefiting from coyote hunts prohibit the use of dogs in their events. Allowing hunting with dogs may expose those organizations to potential liability for the actions of participants who trespass.
