We are Siri Erickson-Brown and Jason Salvo, and we own and operate Local Roots Farm, a 15-acre farm in the Snoqualmie River valley, about 25 miles outside Seattle. 2026 is our 20th season farming and offering our popular CSA program. CSA subscribers receive a box of vegetables weekly-ish during the growing season. A wide variety of crops thrive in our mild climate and world-class soil and we grow more than 40 different vegetables and herbs through the growing season. The majority of CSA produce is grown by us here on our farm, with a handful of items from farmer friends nearby (potatoes, green beans, peas, onions, leeks).

Each week you’ll get a thoughtful mix of salad-y things (lettuce, arugula, mixed greens, escarole), hearty greens like kale and chard, root vegetables, onions and garlic, fresh herbs, and seasonal delights like tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet peppers, winter squash and Brussels sprouts. Our boxes are intended to provide a manageable amount of produce for a household of two to four people that cook dinner at home several nights a week. We mostly stick with familiar and easy-to-enjoy vegetables, plus one or two items a week that might stretch your creativity, like garlic scapes, kohlrabi, fennel, radicchio, and celeriac. After the 2010 growing season we found ourselves landless farmers with a newborn. We lost the lease on our original location, and spent a couple very stressful months trying to figure out what to do next. A serendipitous conversation at a potluck led us to our new home: 40 acres of rich floodplain soil with a derelict 100-year-old house. We started over from scratch in February 2011, plowing ground and building greenhouses, all with a goal of starting our CSA and market season in June as usual. Looking back on it now, I am in awe of the energy and sheer audacity we had then. We also had a tremendous crew, who went along for the ride during this completely bonkers transition. Special appreciation for Brady, now of , who was instrumental in getting our infrastructure up and running that year. Jeez - I’m exhausted just thinking about it!

The throwback pics will continue this coming week. In the meantime, here is the current day photo of our 2026 pepper crop. Things are getting busy around here and we still need a few people to join our Community Supported Agriculture weekly produce box delivery, which begins in mid June. Get on the list and get some of these amazing Gatherers Gold peppers!

We've got some 2010 photos for you today. We grew some vegetables, but we also managed to produce a whole new human that year. No wonder I don't remember very much!

It's time for another installment of "Local Roots Farm in the Olden Days!" Here are some pics from 2009. We really hit our stride as growers that year, with an awesome crew, more acreage in production, and another round of dinners on the farm. This is also the only year we ever made farm t-shirts. Should we bring back the original LRF Treviso shirt for 2026?

Our trip down farm memory lane continues with 2008. This year, we teamed up with the incomparable Emily Crawford Dann on a series of farm dinners. She and Matt Dillon were working on getting The Corson Building open, and I guess she had some time on her hands? Anyway, Emily, with support from a real who's who of the scrappy Seattle restaurant scene of the mid 2000s, cooked a handful of truly epic meals on the farm. She made creative use of all the weird stuff we were doing back then as newbie farmers: stringy chicken that we raised ourselves; tons of farm grown produce; black chickpeas we grew, harvested, and threshed by hand. What didn't come directly from the farm we sourced from fellow farmers market vendors: stone fruit, seafood, berries, foraged greens. It was a magical summer! Oh yeah, and Outstanding in the Field came too! Were you a guest at one of these dinners? We'd love to see your photos!

More vintage pics of the farm are currently being pulled from the archives. In the meantime, signups for this year's Community Supported Agriculture program are currently open. We have pickup sites all over Seattle, plus Burien, Shoreline, Redmond Ridge, and Duvall. Get a weekly box of farm-grown produce all summer and fall! Here's bonus pic of your farmers, Siri Erickson-Brown and Jason, from 2009 (I think), posing with some late summer veg at the iconic The Corson Building. It's Local Roots Farm's 20th year! Here are some pics from our very first year, way back in 2007. We started out growing about 3 acres of veg, renting/partnering with a farmer on land near Carnation. Our first year we sold our produce at the Broadway, Queen Anne Farmers Market, and Madrona farmers markets. We also had a 60 person CSA (bonkers, considering it was our very first year), and sold to a few great restaurants: Sitka & Spruce, Cafe Flora, and Lark. Do you have any pics of us from this first few (pre-Iphone!) days? Let's see them!
