Fowl Play Farm and Miss Bee Haven is a family owned and operated, direct to consumer business. We specialize in poultry and produce and our growing season is currently May through October. We grow a variety of vegetables on a small scale, catering to the local community and select restaurants. Our farm is a regenerative farm and we utilize a permaculture approach to the design, implementation and
management. Presently our family farm manages 10 acres of historical farmland in Duxbury, Massachusetts. The Delorenzo farm was a large, generational farm that sadly, had followed the path of many farms over the decades. It had been overrun by factory farms and could not offer products to the community at a competitive rate. The Farmer had discouraged his children from taking up the farm because of the struggles he had endured through the 1960's and 1970's. In 1975 the Delorenzo farm was no more. The 23 acre parcel that the farmland currently rests on is in conservation, and a part of the Duxbury Farm District. The 10 acre farm is presently undergoing revitalization under our supervision and management, thanks to a 10 year lease from the Town of Duxbury. Because of the "wild" nature of the parcel, we are currently working on clearing and cleaning up the property to prepare for the installation of all of the farm infrastructure. Because our farming philosophy is connected to permaculture, the design of the farm will be one that attempts to fit into the ecological footprint of the area, rather than to denude the parcel. Our design ideas are to preserve much of the woodlot and develop silvopasture, which will eventually lead to a food forest. There are two primary fields on the property, each about 1.3 acres in size. These fields will slowly be developed into produce production, with various cash crops available for sale beginning in 2023/2024. All of the farm land that is not dedicated to access ways or structures, or permanent paddocks will be part of a rotational grazing/cover crop/cash cropping system. This way, the farm animals disturb and fertilize the land while the cover crops provide soil stabilization, microbiome regeneration, carbon sequestration, and infiltration. The purpose is to avoid the use of commercial fertilizers, insecticides, (or any of the -cides) while raising livestock exclusively on pasture during the growing season.
