Today’s project: barn clean up!

Back story: when we bought the farm 4 years ago the house was perfect, but the buildings were in pretty bad shape. This barn interior was covered in 18-24 inches of compressed manure. We’ve cleared out the isle, the kidding side and the boy stall, but we still have this section left to clean. The bowling ball shows you how deep it is. Every time we dig, we are digging up old wood, gates and fencing. Who knows how old this stuff is! We hope to have this side cleaned up this summer and to be able to use it.

Thank you post!

After all the damage, we would not have gotten so far without all the help! The wall of the barn that was ripped open is secured closed. The roofing and debris is cleaned up and in piles. The fence is fixed and the boy goats are back in their pasture. The downed tree branches are in burn piles.

To those who helped us in person: Ken & Pat Spain, the Crocker family, Ron Armstrong & Brandon Kent. You guys are the real MVPs. Theresa even bought our whole egg fridge so we wouldn’t have to run the generator to that fridge!

To the neighbors who stopped by and offered assistance: Andreana Zelles, Jim Abry & the Speckman family. Thank you for helping with our waterless situation and making sure the animals have water! Andi even brought little toys over for the kids.

To all of you who checked in on us: too many to list! Your words of kindness helped to keep us going.

We are grateful and feeling the support. We could not have made it through the weekend without all of you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts ❤️❤️
