PRODUCE SPOTLIGHT 🌶️ Shish*to Peppers!

These little green waxy peppers are, hands down, one of our favorite snacks at Gooseberry Acres. Shish*tos are mild peppers with a wonderful savory flavor. Leave them on the vine a little longer and they’ll develop a sweetness!

You can munch on them raw, but we recommend our favorite way to prepare them:

- Heat a little olive oil in a pan
- Add the peppers and let them blister on one side
- Sprinkle some sea salt and let them cool
- While they cool, mix your favorite mayo and spicy sauce for dipping!

Come by Blackbird Common | Dwight on Saturday, Sept. 12 to get some Shish*tos for your table! 😋

We’ve apparently chosen a color theme for the last Saturday Market of the season, and the garden decided it should be purple. 💜

This Saturday we’re bringing Cherokee Purple tomatoes, purple bell peppers, purple potatoes and plenty more of the late-summer harvest to the Dwight Farmer’s Market, along with a wonderful bakery lineup.

From the farm: raw honey, heirloom tomatoes, poblanos, shish*tos, Hungarian peppers, jalapeños, eggplant, garlic, okra and those very good-looking purple bells.

From the bakery: sourdough loaves, sourdough pizza crusts, blueberry sweet rolls and cinnamon rolls.

And this one is worth making a point to catch: Saturday is the final Dwight Saturday Market of the 2026 season. Come stock up, grab a roll for breakfast, and help us send off the DWC Saturday market season with a good crowd. Note the location change!!!

Saturday, August 29 | 8 AM–Noon
📍 Emmanuel Lutheran in Dwight

Not quite ready to say goodbye to summer? Yeah, we aren’t either. But autumn is upon us! We’ll be back with the last of summer’s harvest and our bakery goodies on Saturday, September 12 from 9 AM–Noon at Blackbird Common for our late-summer market morning event.

Until then, the garden is taking a little inspiration from Dolly Parton and giving purple the attention it deserves. 💜

RENOVATION UPDATE 📢 The market is quickly coming together! Check out the progress! 🙌

We had a grand vision for what we wanted the space to do and how it should flow with our plans. We didn’t know too much about the process of making that happen, but we found the right crew to make it work.

Thankfully, we’ve got Jay and his team, who have been incredibly helpful in translating our thoughts into reality. Kong Construction puts in the work and comes through with quality and know-how!

We’re so grateful for the support, Feeding Illinois!

Our dream of opening a market is coming to fruition because of the Farm to Food Bank Capacity Building Grant. In return, we’ve been able to increase our share to food banks in Livingston County and, soon, will have fully functional walk-in fridges, freezers, and dry storage to better store our local harvests. It’s our goal to make all of this translate into a stronger and healthier community. 💛

Sometimes the simplest meals steal the show. 🤩 After a long market day, we’re so tempted to warm up a frozen meal or order out.

But tonight, Meredith Elaine Donaldson experimented with chopping up a medley of what we had left over from the farmer’s market and simmering it all down, low and slow.

The result was an incredible meal that we want to share with you! Take the following and rough chop them into small pieces:

🌶️ Poblano
🥔 Potatoes
🧅 Onion
🧄 Garlic cloves
🍅 Amish Paste tomatoes

Add a little olive oil and a cup of water. Simmer them down until they reach a deep red paste and the potatoes are soft. That’s all! We absolutely loved this dish and paired it with meatballs.

Want to try for yourself? Check us out at the next Dwight Saturday Market and grab the ingredients!

There’s a pollinator party happening in our flowerbeds today. Maybe my invitation got lost in the snail mail. 🐝 🦋 🌼 We spy some monarchs, bumblebees, and other pretty little butterflies.

PS: Grab some beautiful flowers from our farm and Cari Parker this weekend at the market!

Late August is offering us lots of summer flavor. 🍅🌶️🌿 Even with all that rain, we’ve finally dried out and have baskets of fresh veggies ready to share with you!

We’re heading to the Dwight Saturday Market with a table full of what’s growing strong at Gooseberry Acres right now.

This week we’ll have:
🍯 Raw honey
🍅 Heirloom tomatoes
🌶️ Poblano, shish*to + Hungarian peppers
🍆 Eggplant
🫛 Green beans
🧄 Garlic
🥔 Potatoes
🌱 Okra

Basically, everything you need for late-summer dinners: tomatoes for BLTs and fresh salsa, poblanos for roasting, shish*tos for blistering in a hot pan, green beans for Sunday dinner, and enough garlic to make everything better.

Saturday, August 22 | 8 AM–Noon
📍 St. Patrick’s Parish Hall, Dwight

Everything is grown right here on our farm, picked for the weekend, and brought just a few miles down the road. Clean, fresh, with no chemicals (or recalls)! Come see what’s in season before summer starts slipping away. 💛

PRODUCE SPOTLIGHT 🫛 Check out these beautiful bean pods!

These pods belong to the Rattlesnake bean, a sweet, snappy green bean that’s great for snacking and cooking. We love the blend of green and purple on the outside, and the flavor inside is pretty great too!

Grab some tomorrow at our booth at the Dwight Saturday Market. We’ll be there from 8 am till noon!
