Our founder, Nancy Close, is from the restaurant family behind St. Paul’s former Caravan Serai, the first Afghan restaurant in the United States. Nancy grew up in, and eventually bought, that business, which birthed Caravan Kids Catering. Since catering our first daycare center from the Caravan Serai kitchen in the early 90s, CKC Good Food has focused on finding new ways to tempt the taste buds of people across many different cultures, while incorporating fresh, high quality ingredients. Even under today’s strict nutritional guidelines of the National School Lunch Program and other federal nutrition programs, we have upheld our commitment to providing delicious, healthful, restaurant-quality meals that inspire happy eaters. Why all the 4%?

CKC Good Food’s non-domestic food purchases are just 4%! That’s well below the Buy American limit. 🇺🇸

No more than 10% of food purchases for school meal programs can be non-domestic... and we’re already less than half of that limit, which means we’re sourcing U.S. products and supporting American agriculture as much as possible while still providing cost-effective meals and honoring culturally specific preferences.

Administrative Review Season: Complete!

We successfully supported 17 client partners through their 2025–2026 Administrative Reviews conducted by the MDE. (That adds up to 192 total reviews since school year 2013-2014! 😲)

From monthly site visits by our dedicated Client Services Managers (Chasae, Ed, Jim, and Oscar) and compliance guidance from our Director of Compliance (Laurie), our team works tirelessly to help schools stay prepared and confident.

One reviewer shared: “CKC has solid systems in place to meet program requirements and staff are very cooperative.”

1 in 13 children in the U.S. has a food allergy. Did you know that’s about 2 students in every classroom?

May is Food Allergy Awareness Month, and we put a lot of care into serving food safely every day.

Our team takes extra steps through:
✔ Carefully planned allergen-free menus
✔ Ingredient label reviews
✔ Allergen staff training & testing
✔ Dedicated prep and packaging areas
✔ Procedures designed to help prevent cross-contact

And while safety comes first, flavor still matters. Our allergen-free menu includes flavorful meals like beef & broccoli, chicken fajitas with rice, chicken pilaf, and more!

For us, it's more than avoiding ingredients. It’s about helping students feel included at mealtime.
