Monday ‘Mater Madness - LIMITED TIME ONLY! 🍅🍅
If you fancy yourself to be a canner of tomatoes, a salsa chef, or lover of tomato juice; the tomatoes have ARRIVED! We picked between 200-300 pounds of tomatoes this weekend!! This super abundance will likely last about a couple of weeks before summer production starts to decline into fall.
Meanwhile, we have lots of boxes of “canning” tomatoes for sale, 70% off of the premium price!
The difference? What ends up in the canner boxes usually have a few oddities to them: a funny shape, a bug bite, some spots…. But at this time of year, we get super picky with what is considered “premium,” and everything else goes into canning boxes!
Please don’t wait; we’d rather sell them to you than pick them for the cows to eat…! 😬🫣
A note on the different TYPES of tomatoes:
The heirlooms (blacks) have the best taste, and more acidity than the others, but they are “fragile” (bruising easily). The pink heirlooms are sweeter, with lower acidity (and much fewer of them this year). We have a few sauce or paste tomatoes, some of which you may find in canning boxes (they have not made it to the shelf otherwise yet, since they’ve had some issues this year).
UPDATE: you all are amazing! We somehow sold about 200 lbs of tomatoes yesterday, and are caught up for the moment on canners!
They will still be coming!
Meanwhile, we’ve reduced the price of our premium picks down to $2.50/lb ($3 for heirloom).
You’ll also find more of the momotaro tomatoes (“pink” heirlooms) on the shelf, and even a few of our first Roma paste tomatoes ($2.00/lb).
Side note: cantaloupe have taken a vacation, but we hope to have some coming back in soon.
Thank you all for your faithful patronage!
