🎯 Swinging Big at Topgolf! ⛳️

​Our latest community outing was an absolute hole-in-one! We took some of our incredible kiddos to Topgolf, and to say we had a blast would be an understatement.

​Community outings like these are such a vital part of what we do. Beyond just having fun, our kiddos practiced:

​Motor Planning & Coordination: Navigating the stance, grip, swing mechanics, and keeping you eye on the ball are not easy tasks!

​Social Connections: Cheering on peers, taking turns, and celebrating every single hit together.

​Environmental Transitions: Processing the sights, sounds, and vibrant energy of a new community space.

​Watching them build confidence with every swing—and celebrate each other's successes—is exactly why we love these outings. A huge thank you to our amazing staff for making it such a successful day!

🧼 🚗 Big Skills, Bright Shines! 🚗 🧼

​Our amazing kids are turning the clinic parking lot into the ultimate car wash this week for our Annual Car Wash Week — but it’s so much more than just soap and water! While they are working hard to make cars sparkle, they are secretly building some incredible, developmental skills:

​💪 Upper Body Strengthening: Scrubbing those high roofs and reaching across the hood is a massive workout for shoulders, the core, and arms!

​🤝 Bilateral Integration: Using two hands together—one holding the hose, the other scrubbing with the sponge and wringing out the sponge — takes some serious brain-and-body teamwork.

​🧠 Sequencing & Executive Function: First we wet, then we soap, then we scrub, rinse, and dry. Mastering multi-step routines is a major win for daily life skills!

​🎯 Attention to Detail & Focus: Missing a spot? Not on their watch! This requires sharp focus and sustained attention to get every last spec of dirt and bubble.

​🌟 Perseverance & Grit: Washing a whole car takes a lot of time, attention, and stamina! Our kids are learning to stick with a big job from start to finish.

​🏡 Life Skills & Chores: Learning the basics of a real-world chore builds a massive sense of independence, pride, and responsibility.

​The absolute best part? Parents get a squeaky-clean ride out of the deal! 🚙 ✨

⛳️ Swingin’ Into Social Skills at Topgolf!

​Our ABA team took learning on the road (and onto the green!) for an awesome community outing at Topgolf!

While it looked like all high-fives and golf swings, our kiddos were actually working hard on some incredible real-world skills!

​Community outings are a massive part of what we do. Transitioning skills from a clinical setting to a busy, dynamic environment like Topgolf helps our clients generalize their goals in the real world.

​Here is a look at the secret clinical superpowers we practiced between swings:

​- Sensory Regulation & Navigating Overstimulation: Topgolf is an sensory-rich environment! Between the energetic music, loud cheers, clanking clubs, and the visual traffic of the nearby freeway, our kids worked beautifully on self-regulation, using coping strategies, and managing increased environmental stimulation in real time.

​- Social & Peer Interaction: From cheering each other on to waiting patiently for a turn at the tee, our kids practiced natural peer-to-peer socialization.

- ​Flexibility & Problem Solving: Golf doesn’t always go perfectly! Missing a ball or watching a peer get a higher score provides a safe space to practice emotional regulation, sportsmanship, and cognitive flexibility.

- ​Following Multi-Step Directions: Navigating a new environment requires listening to safety rules, following setup instructions, and learning the structure of a new game.

​- Gross Motor & Executive Functioning: Coordinating a swing takes focus, motor planning, and body awareness—all while managing the sensory excitement of a bustling venue.

​By practicing these skills out in the community, our clients build the confidence, resilience, and independence they need to thrive in everyday social situations. Plus, they get to make amazing memories in therapy with their peers!

Who knew dressing up like Dad could be such a powerhouse workout for development? 🧠💪

​Check out how we integrated functional independence skills into an awesome Father's Day obstacle course:

1️⃣ Dynamic Balance & Core Stability: Standing and navigating the balance beam.

2️⃣ Vestibular and Proprioception: while on the balance beam, bending, reaching, and retrieving the shirt, ties, and hats while maintaining balance, followed by pulling themselves across a steamroller with a rope, and ball walks back to the beam.

3️⃣ Fine Motor Coordination & Bilateral Integration Skills: while manipulating small buttons and ties. Some of our older boys learned how to tie their ties this week! 🙌

​The best part? Our kids got to cross the finish line looking just like their favorite guy!

🛠️ Happy Father’s Day from our clinic family! 🔩

​We had a great time this past week getting ready to celebrate all the dads and dad-figures in our lives! 🎉

As you can see, our kids were busy using their fine motor and perceptual skills to participate in various projects and to create some truly special gifts.

​Our "Design and Drill" activity was a huge hit, helping us work on in-hand manipulation, color matching, language, and recognizing / following patterns. They even made this awesome "DAD" sign from screws, nuts, and bolts – which was great for building strength in little fingers!
