UPDATE-only one hatched. The other 2 didnt.

We have 3 monarch butterfly chrysalis's hanging from the eaves of the house. I think its a bit early for them. Does anyone else in North Carolina have monarchs already? We raise common and tropical milkweed here on the farm and have sold some plants and seeds in the past.

It's raining cracked eggshells here on the farm. We have a terrible skink problem and I refuse to kill them. Im convinced that they eat my Monarch butterfly caterpillars which I raise. Instead if killing, I choose to repel. I saw that coffee grounds, eggshells and certain scents repel them. I happen to have crushed eggshells on hand. It's not pleasant to look at, but the calcium is probably good for the plants as well. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks

Question: How long can a chick stay in the egg chirping before it runs out of air and I need to intervene? It's been chirping going on 2 days now, but hasn't pipped. Thanks in advance.
