The blueberries have blossomed and the bushes are loaded. Let's hope there are no more frosts this spring! Given the number of blossoms we should have a very good year for picking. Another reason to be thankful and amazed at Nature's bounty and kindness to us.

.February is onion planting time at Enon Meadows Farm and we are nearly done. Garlic and onions are our winter planting crops. We are often asked "what do you do in the off season". The answer is there is not really an "off season" on the farm. Nature blesses us with a variety of crops that each have their own season for planting and harvesting. Nature was particularly kind this year with some warm days in which to plant. Some years we have planted onions in sleet, snow or cold rain. Amazingly, this year the frogs were peeping, birds singing and I was smiling at the raucous sounds of Nature. Another question we get is "how do you plant them"? The answer is simple - one tiny onion slip at a time. The fancy tool is your finger to make the hole and your other fingers to cover the slip with dirt. If you want your onions to be big fat ones, plant them about 6 inches apart. If you want them a little smaller, plant them about 4 inches apart. We believe that if you want them to be healthy for you, don't use pesticides, herbicides or other chemicals on them.

Due to the weather, the blueberry fields will be closed this week for "pick your own". 😃 (We thought you all could use a little humor after a week of ice and snow). Stay safe and warm!

For many folks, January can be a very depressing time. It's cold, days are short, sometimes grey outside and Nature's beautiful foliage is gone. Nature however, has a wonderful way of rewarding us with her beauty each month of the year in her own special way. I wanted to share this picture of sunrise over the sleeping blueberries last week here at Enon Meadows Farm. Beauty in Winter may not be the same beauty as Summer, but it is unique and should be treasured just the same. Sometimes we just have to look a little harder to find the joy of Nature and that makes it all the more special.

We wanted to share with you one of Nature's beautiful cycles. After a summer of producing a wonderous crop of blueberries, the bushes are now resting, but still producing a gift of magnificent color for us to behold. Soon the color will be gone as they move into their next cycle of sleep in preparation for another summer of producing the fruit we all love. It is not possible to not be in awe of the beauty of Nature.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
