The best veggies around, now indoors! Saturday's looking a bit yuck as far as weather so we'll be inside, cozy and warm in the Community Room of Center for the Arts

This weekend could very well be the last of tomatoes and peppers, making it the perfect time to shop one of our greatest spreads of the year!💚

Garlic bed prep started today with broadforking and a layer of compost. Tomorrow, seeding a cover crop, and in a few weeks, the garlic cloves themselves will go in. My favorite crop!

🥕Carrot update: you may have noticed we haven't had carrot bunches at market, instead we've been offering quarts of topped, loose carrots.

Our land tends to be wet, which is sometimes helpful (like for maybe a week in June). But when we get loads of rain like we did this mid to late summer, it gets disastrously wet. Pair that with the heat of summer and you've got yourself a fungal disease hot spot.

For several plantings of carrots (and a bed of spinach, and a bed of beets) that meant foliage die off. If a plant doesn't have its solar panels out to convert sweet, sweet sunshine into plant food, the plant won't grow. So, several weeks worth of carrots just didn't happen.

Thankfully, carrots store very well and earlier plantings left us with an abundance of carrots to stash away, and that's what we've been sharing at market. It's looking like our carrot reserves will last just about until we can dig into the beds of carrots that were located in drier, more well draining plots.

We still have 150 bed feet of carrots out there, the carrots are about 3" long right now, and with a little luck, they'll make an appearance at market before the end of October, or else head into storage for sharing over the winter months! 🥕
