Greens are abundant this week!

Large shares will receive a quartet of mini head lettuce, kale, baby chard, salad mix, fennel, rhubarb, scallions, and green garlic.

This is definitely the week to serve everything on a bed of greens and pile your sandwiches high with stacks of lettuce!

Can you spot the mamas in these baby melon soil blocks? A deer was huffing at me while I transplanted them in the field, and I saw some other friends today too! It's feeling very alive out here!🍉🕷️🐢🐌🦋🦌

There are few certainties in farming, but in early June we can always count on snappers and scapes.

I've come to think of the portions of beds that get dug up as these ladies endeavor to lay their eggs as "the turtles' share." Have you heard of the angels' share of barrel aged whiskey? It's the portion that evaporates off and floats up into the heavens, and it's an unavoidable part of the process.

If I'm going to be grateful that we live and farm on a water-rich slice of earth, then I have to accept the things that come with abundant water. And those things include tenacious turtles that will not be dissuaded from finding the warm raised beds and deeming them the perfect place to set life in motion.

The turtles, just like the garlic sending out their flower stalk (known as a scape) are just looking to ensure a little bit of them makes it to the future. So relatable!

One last fun fact: snapping turtles will climb a 6 foot tall fence in pursuit of laying grounds. We learned that after putting in 500' of 2 foot fencing in an effort to keep them out🙃

Weekly shares are back!

Large shares include lettuce mix, zesty greens mix, bok choy, radish, potato, onion/shallot mix, pea shoots, oregano, and thyme.

What would you do with this haul? I'm thinking an herby shallot vinaigrette and pea shoots for lunch time side salads; herb crusted potato wedges, or maybe salt potatoes, with a juicy steak; sauteed bok choy/yellow onion with soy sauce and garlic, paired with a bed of zesty greens with a garlic-ginger dressing, topped with pickled radish/red onion and baked salmon.

Anyway you prep it, it's just so good to have fresh food again!💚
