Our Story
My husband and I started Rognerud Farms 5 years ago on a small patch of land back at my childhood home in Cavalier. Even though we started our farm only 5 years ago, our love of growing and farming started long before that. For my husband, who grew up in the Twin Cities area, it was gradual transition that started with a side job working for a local commercial farmer. Over time this morphed into a desire to become self-sufficient. While his love of farming came later in life, mine began in childhood. Farming has always been apart of my life in some shape or form whether it was my Dad and Grandpa who spent most of their lives out in the fields commercial farming or my Grandma who spent so many hours in her garden caring for and growing all sorts of vegetables.
Since our start only 5 years ago we have gone through much growth and change. A year or two after we started, we expanded our growing space by renting a patch of land here in East Grand Forks with Stable Days Youth Ranch. This was an amazing opportunity to grow and form a great relationship which has given us so much guidance. We were able to stay at Stable Days 2 years growing both there and back in Cavalier but we knew we needed a place where we didn’t need to travel so much. So we started to keep a look out for a place here in the EGF area. We happened to get lucky and find a new home for Rognerud Farms just north of town. Moving to this new location has allowed us to increase the time spent caring for our plants in order to get the best from them. It has also allowed us to explore new produce options as well as new growing techniques.
These experiences are what drive us to do what we love the best we can and to share that with others. We value a natural approach to food production and use organic practices. We spend our time learning and trying to understand how to produce the best produce we can. For us it must, not only look good but taste great and be good for you.
