Shady Knoll Farm Open for the season! Pumpkins, mums, flowers, and all fall decorations! For six generations, the Dennhardt family have called this land home.

We are a sesquicentennial family farm established in 1863 currently owned and operated by Gene and Beri Dennhardt. We work hard to keep the soil fertile and clean by using traditional organic techniques. We currently raise 90 varieties of squash and pumpkins that we sell in the fall at our pumpkin patch. At our traditional family patch we have a large U-Pick Pumpkin Patch, a U-Pick Flower Field, a 5-acre corn maze, a small children’s corn maze, and a petting zoo where you can feed our sheep and goats. Along with a variety of livestock, to give your family a true taste of the farm experience.

Today’s secret word is… GRAIN DRILL 🌾

A grain drill is a piece of farm equipment used to plant seeds in evenly spaced rows at a consistent depth. Early grain drills were pulled by horses, making planting much quicker and more efficient than scattering seed by hand!

The first family or group to tell us the secret word at the sales shed today gets to take our disposable camera around the farm and capture their visit!

Just bring the camera back before you leave, and we’ll take care of developing the pictures and sending you digital copies.

We’re open 10 AM–6 PM today. We can’t wait to see the farm through your eyes! 📸

📸 Saturday’s Secret Word!

Today’s secret word is… WINDROW 🌾

A windrow is a long row of cut hay or grain that’s been laid out in the field to dry before being baled or collected. We typically mow down the hay into thin strips, rake the hay into windrows, and then bale it up when it has dried down! It’s a farming technique that’s been used for generations!

The first family or group to tell us the secret word at the sales shed today gets to take our disposable camera around the farm and capture their visit!

Just bring the camera back before you leave, and we’ll take care of developing the pictures and sending you digital copies.

We’re open 10 AM–6 PM today. We can’t wait to see the farm through your eyes! 📸

Our first roll of film is back, and we’re so excited to share it!

Last weekend, we handed a disposable camera to a young couple visiting the farm and let them capture their time here.

We spend so much time working around the farm that it’s fun to see it from someone else’s perspective. We loved looking through their pictures and seeing the little things they chose to capture!

We’ll be doing it again this weekend, so keep an eye on our page Saturday and Sunday morning for the next secret words to win the next cameras! 📸

** Today’s camera has been claimed! Keep an eye on our page next Saturday for the next secret word! **

📸 We’ve got a fun little project we’re kicking off today at the pumpkin patch!

We recently got our hands on some disposable cameras, and we thought it would be neat to see Shady Knoll Farm through the eyes of our visitors!

We’re calling it “The Patch Through Your Eyes!”

Here’s how it works! Every Saturday and Sunday for the rest of the season, we’ll be posting a secret word right here on Facebook. The first family or group to stop by the sales shed and tell us the word will get a disposable camera to take around the farm during their visit!

Take pictures of whatever catches your eye! Picking pumpkins, visiting the animals, spending time with family, or just enjoying a fall day at the farm.

Before you leave, bring the camera back to us. We’ll get the film developed and email you digital copies of your pictures! With your permission, we’re also hoping to put together some videos showing the farm from our visitors’ perspectives.

We’ll have one camera available each Saturday and Sunday, and we’ll switch up the time we post the secret word to give visitors throughout the day a chance to participate!

🌾 And here’s our very first secret word: WALKING PLOW!

A walking plow is an old-fashioned piece of farm equipment that was pulled by horses or mules while the farmer walked behind it, guiding the plow through the field.

The first family or group to come up to the sales shed and tell us “Walking Plow” gets today’s camera!

Looking for some ideas for your fall cooking? We have several varieties of squash available at the farm!

* Honey Nut: Sweet and creamy, great roasted.
* Delicata: Sweet and tender, with an edible skin. Roast it in slices!
* Butternut: Great for soups, roasting, or mashing.
* Buttercup: Sweet and creamy, perfect for baking or mashing.
* Acorn: Delicious roasted with butter and brown sugar.
* Spaghetti: Bake it and use a fork to pull it into spaghetti-like strands!

🍂 It’s shaping up to be a beautiful fall weekend at the farm!

The kind of weather that makes you want to get outside, enjoy the sunshine, wander around and take it all in!

There’s plenty to see and do while you’re here:

🌽 Corn Maze — take your chances and see if you can find your way out!

🌻 Mini Maze — a fun and easier adventure for the kids.

🐐 Oats for the Goats — the goats are always happy to see you!

🎃 Pumpkins, Squash & Gourds — lots to choose from in all different sizes, shapes and colors. BIG carving jacks available!

🍋 The Main Squeeze Trailer — here Saturday & Sunday to grab a cold drink while you enjoy the farm!

☕️Sunshine Sips- joining us Monday for coffee, dirty sodas, and energy drinks!

***Don’t forget to head down the road to Stone’s Apple Barn for all things apples and more fun for the kiddos! New this Sunday at their farm is pumpkin painting! We’re happy to be working with Stone’s this fall and providing the pumpkins for their pumpkin painting event! We’re thankful to be a part of it and are excited to see what you create!

We’ve got a little something extra at the farm tomorrow! 🥤🎃

The Main Squeeze Trailer is bringing their drink trailer out and will be set up with us for the day!

Grab a drink and take your time wandering the patch, picking out pumpkins, visiting the animals, and enjoying a Sunday at the farm. 🍂
