The Squirrels dictate when we harvest Hazelnuts. Once the trees are getting hit, it’s time to pick. I can wait until they’re ripe and get none, or have tiny ( but good) roasted hazels.
I make a deal with them , they can have any I can’t reach. Keeps me off ladders.

Bees at work, a few apples, a lot of peaches, and squash flowers. It is lovely, but what is not pictured are the vine borers, squash bugs, curcullio, cabbage moths, godamn catbirds, etc. etc. I try not to get attached to outcomes as far as ending up with produce. Just enjoy the moments. There’s another season and more to learn.

Fresh, free-range chicken and duck eggs for sale, corner of Hopkins Lane and Barney Way, Orleans.
$6/dozen

Curious about duck eggs? They taste almost the same as chicken eggs except they have a larger yolk and a slightly higher fat content. They are amazing to cook with because of their thicker, richer consistency. Great for baking!
