This is Phoebe - she’s a teenager

She makes mistakes. Like today. She has been chasing chickens, she likes the chase, and she’ll “play” with them once she gets them pinned. No killing, yet, but we don’t want it to escalate any farther. And this has increased since those 2 new chickens (yes you read that right, 2 🫩) have came to the farm. They are probably not used to the dog, freak out, and in turn, Phoebe turns on the chase.

We are working on that. I mean look at her, she knows Mom is pi**ed off.

She’s also without her Halo collar for another week - which is very poor timing, but the warranty was great to have & we are getting a replacement hopefully by Saturday if not early next week.

But without that, she has been testing & escaping her boundaries she once respected - including finding a deer carcass (lovely 🤢)

Ugh - what a week!

Just because you think it’s “empty” doesn’t mean it’s not!

Here’s a question for rural America:

If your little corner of the countryside disappeared tomorrow and was replaced with subdivisions, warehouses, and solar panels, what would you miss the most?

For us, it’s not just the fields themselves. It’s the life built around them. The history in the land. The freedom of open spaces. The fact that our children can grow up knowing where their food comes from and what it means to work for something.

Progress isn’t always progress if we destroy everything that made a place worth living in to begin with.

What’s one thing about country living you hope never changes?

Another game of hide & seek this morning with the chickens

I haven’t found Sally’s green eggs in a week, I only see 2 maybe 3 here in this picture, I’m assuming there’s another nest somewhere 😬
