🌼 Treatment Guidelines:
Best used during active bee periods, Apivar 2.0 is ideal for treatments in both spring and fall. Just position one strip per five frames in each brood chamber and leave them in for 6 to 10 weeks. Plus, there are no temperature restrictions – how convenient is that?

🍯🐝 **October Hive Preparation: Getting Ready for Winter!** 🐝🍯

As the days get cooler, it's time for beekeepers to prepare our hives for the winter months ahead! Here are some important tasks to ensure our bee colonies are healthy and well-protected:

1️⃣ **Insulate the Hives**: Don’t forget to wrap your hives or add insulation to their outer covers. This helps the bees maintain their internal temperature and conserves their honey stores.

2️⃣ **Reduce Entrances**: Lowering the hive entrance is key to keeping out chilly winds and pesky pests like mice. Installing mouse guards made of 1/4-inch mesh is a great idea!

3️⃣ **Ensure Proper Ventilation**: A small upper entrance or a shim can help moisture escape. Remember, wet bees can perish in the cold, even if temperatures aren’t that low.

4️⃣ **Create a Wind Barrier**: Position your hives to avoid prevailing winds, and consider adding windbreaks to protect your apiary.

5️⃣ **Inspect for Mites**: Check for varroa mites and treat your hives as needed. Be sure to complete any treatments before the harsh weather kicks in!

6️⃣ **Assess Honey Reserves**: Make sure your hives have about 30 lbs of honey stored up to sustain the bees through winter. Depending on your location you may need more than that.

7️⃣ **Feed the Bees**: If honey stores are lacking, don’t hesitate to provide pollen substitutes or extra food to keep the colony strong.

8️⃣ **Inspect and Consolidate**: Take the time to check on the queen and overall health of the colony. Combining weaker hives can help form a stronger winter cluster using the newspaper method.

9️⃣ **Remove Unnecessary Equipment**: Clear out queen excluders, extra rims, and any superfluous items to keep the hive tidy and efficient as winter approaches.

🔟 **Final Management Tasks**: October often marks the end of major bee management for the year, so it’s crucial to complete feeding, mite treatments, and hive consolidation.
