๐ŸŒธ What's the best part about our flower field?? That it's right next to the chicken coop. ๐ŸŒธ

This year, we decided to give in to the battle of the weeds, and went raised beds for the flowers. While we loved the look of the flowers blooming in beautiful rows, it was near impossible to keep up weeding it, and the weeds also were competing (and ultimately winning) against the flowers. We're a little later than we had hoped getting the flower seedlings in, but we are hopeful this will help with maintenece, leaving more time to make bouquets!

And check out last year's yarrow. It came back in full force, and is beautiful!

We've been busy getting things planted, and cleaned up, but we took a few minutes to stop and smell the flowers. (And sip some iced tea๐Ÿฅƒ)

Rhubarb season is short lived, but it is not to missed! This tart and sweet treat can be used for baking, sauces, or even fresh snacking, sprinkled with a little sugar. If you're looking for some inspo, try this vintage Rhubarb Brown Betty recipe, or keep it classic with a rhubarb pie!

This past Saturday, we took a break, and set out for a night fit for a farmer. Complete with amazing food, a live auction, and dancing to The Swamp Boys. Proceeds benefited the NY Agricultural Land Trust, preserving our invaluable farm land across NY state, and NY FarmNet. We look forward to this event every year at North Riding LLC. It is such a beautiful place, and Kendra and family always put on a great event We made new friends, and created lasting memories. Until next year! ๐Ÿฅ‚

A post with all the photos (think donuts from Country Glazed ๐Ÿ˜‹) to follow!

Better late than never!

Well, it's later than we were hoping, but we are finally ready to open. This is a soft opening of sorts, as we don't have our usual produce offerings (yet), but we are looking forward to opening the farmstand doors on Sunday, May 24th at 10am. We will update hours from then on, as we move a little closer, as we progress into the beginning of the season!

Hope to see some familiar faces!

Planting has really begun! Fingers crossed that mother nature is on our team and we are out of frost danger. It's a risk in Central New York, but we have plant seedlings everywhere, (Haven't been able to use the sink in the laundry room in weeks) so it is time. We're going big(ger) this year. Just potted up about 96 lizianthus seedlings, and that is only one variety of our cut flowers. ๐Ÿ˜ณ and your girl just can't help herself when she visits a nursery. Really, what's one more plant?!

The current state of affairs over here at Fremont Farms East. There are hundreds of seedlings, and we have outgrown the grow room, so we fashioned some makeshift greenhouses on the raised beds where the most cold hardy plants will live until all threat of frost has passed. It is a constant labor of love, removing the plastic in the sunshine, and covering at night. A few trays are settled in the shed greenhouse, while they harden off and adjust to life outdoors like their harder cousins. It is both an exciting and anxious time, while we try to keep everything happily fed and healthy for a few more weeks.

Some lettuce and radishes have begun to sprout, and will soon need to be covered with protective mesh to deter the hungry bunnies. And an experimental crop of a less cold hardy variety soft neck garlic seems to be doing quite well so far! ๐Ÿคž

Looking forward to opening soon!
