What a glorious May Day this has been! Hereās an update from our farm:
We seem to have survived the extra hot days in April with the subsequent drop into the 20s right afterwards. We still have a few weeks of watching and waiting, but weāre optimistic about the future weather.
Our pretty pink peach blossoms are beginning to wane as our apple blossoms start to open. This weekend would be a good time to come by to enjoy the splendor of the orchard in bloom. Beehives from Adam Fuller and A&Z Apiary have been placed strategically to allow for good pollination of our fruits. The strawberries in our recently planted field are growing and should produce a wonderful crop of berries in June. Cherry blossoms are showing much promise. Our raspberries have been pruned and weāre setting up a higher support for them as the canes will be much taller this year than last. The blueberries in the larger field have all been pruned and, by this time tomorrow, weāll have the smaller field finished up. All of the winter pruning is done just by family, so weāre very thankful for our seasonal workers who arrived a month ago to help finish it up. And lastly, our tomatoes have been planted and weāre looking forward to watching them grow.
So much work done behind the scenes, so to speak, that many of you may not realize. Itās hard work, but oh so satisfying. We canāt wait to begin harvest season 2026! ā at Buell's Orchard.
