🌱 I officially have more plants than space… and I still can’t bring myself to toss any of these little green babies!

I’ve got a mix of Roma VF and Beefsteak tomatoes (they may have gotten cozy on the tray and mixed themselves up), plus several types of cucumbers: Pickling, Straight 8, Bush, Garden Green, and Tender Green.

Also up for grabs: young banana pepper, California Red, California Yellow, and mini colorful pepper plants.

šŸ‘‰ $2 each

What a process!

Last year we ended the season with less than 10 gallons of sap… this year? Just over 25 gallons tapped!

We did lose a 5-gallon bucket to mold (still not 100% sure how, but I have some theories). After a long, sticky process, we boiled down 20 gallons of maple sap into a grand total of 2 quarts—that’s just half a gallon of liquid gold.

And because I like to keep life extra interesting, I pulled an all-nighter boiling… the night before cooking Easter dinner. Can’t say I’ve pulled an all nighter since college or ever!

It’s been a busy Easter Sunday over here—completely unplanned, we’ve hatched Easter chicks!

These fluffy little surprises started breaking out this morning, and so far 10 out of 13 have hatched in the incubator. Just look at these cuties! 🐣

Next up: Pekin duck eggs are going in for one final round of incubation this spring… or so I say!
Because let’s be honest, who can stop once you’ve got the hatching bug?

Cowboy has dreams… BIG dreams.

First, he set his sights on becoming a majestic unicorn.
When we gently explained that unicorns only have one horn, he said, ā€œChallenge accepted.ā€

With just the right attitude (and a little creative styling), he proudly became the unicorn he always knew he was.

Next up on Cowboy’s dream board?
Becoming an extra in the next Minions movie.
We believe in him.

All jokes aside… Of course, we can laugh about it now—but not long ago, Cowboy gave us quite the scare.
Mid-March, while Will was out feeding the goats, Cowboy managed to catch his horn on something and nearly surgically removed it himself.
One emergency vet call where the doctor assured me he may sound like he is dying but he will not die. ( goats and their flare for the dramatics)
Cue the emergency vet visit the next day to finish the job.

Twice-a-day penicillin, some epic goat wrangling, and a whole lot of teamwork later—Cowboy’s on the mend.
If the horn grows back, it may just be a tiny nub. Or he may forever be our Goaticorn.

Never a dull moment on the homestead.

Sure Signs Spring is on the Horizon…

The ladies are officially done freeloading and have started paying rent! šŸ„ššŸ”

We’re finally getting back to almost regular egg production — and to top it off, we’ve got 16 eggs cozy in the incubator, ready to kick off chick season! 🐣

You can just feel that seasonal depression lifting by the minute. Warmer days and fresh starts are on the way! ā˜€ļøšŸŒ±

Sweet Beginnings: Maple Season is Here! šŸ

It’s March 10th, and our maple trees are officially tapped! We held off until the end of February since winter wasn’t ready to let go just yet. ā„ļø

So far, we’ve collected over 10 gallons of sap and are hoping for at least 5 more before the season wraps up. This year, we’re excited to take everything we learned from last season and make this maple run even better!

Stay tuned for updates—sticky fingers and sweet syrup ahead! šŸšŸ”„

Here we grow again!

Meredith the matriarch of our flock gave us our next addition a few weeks ago.

This one made us nervous (in a good way) because the vet said one of our three does would have triplets. With Eloise having one and Lizzie giving us two we were waiting anxiously to see if Meredith would give us a lucky triple.

Turns out she only gave us the one and we are pleased to present the world: Almond Joy!
