🧊 IF YOU FALL THROUGH THE ICE — SELF-RESCUE TIPS 🧊

Falling through the ice is terrifying, but knowing what to do can save your life. In a follow up to our post yesterday, about dangerous ice conditions if the worst happens, remember these steps:

1. DON’T PANIC
Cold shock is real! Control your breathing
Keep your head above water and stay calm

2. TURN BACK THE WAY YOU CAME
The ice you walked on held your weight, that’s your best exit

3. GET HORIZONTAL
Kick your legs and pull your chest onto the ice
Use ice picks, a knife, or your elbows to grip the edge

4. KICK & SLIDE
Kick hard while pulling yourself forward
Don’t try to stand, slide your body onto the ice

5. ROLL AWAY
Roll or crawl at least 25–50 feet away from the hole. Spread your weight until you reach thicker ice

6. GET WARM FAST
Get out of wet clothes as soon as possible
Seek shelter, dry clothes, and medical attention

REMEMBER
Ice near shore often fails first
Ice thickness can change by the hour
No ice is 100% safe

Wearing a life jacket and carrying ice picks and a throw rope can make the difference between a close call and a tragedy.

Stay smart. Stay cautious. And if it doesn’t look right, stay off the ice.

Tides for President's Day week.
Please, stay off the ice. ❄

Know when low tide is! ⚠
Currents are more swift and dangerous with a New Moon. 🌕
(Lunar New Year).

Even if there's a big thaw, the ground can turn to quicksand after a thaw. ⚠⚠⚠

Give it a few days at least, to harden off with the wind and the tides.

Tides for the week.

Reminder, Grant/farmer trucks have access across the beach face now that it's after Labor Day.

This happens during the hours before and after low tide.

Keep the access road clear for everyone's safety.

Also, dogs are not allowed in the Grant area per sanitation laws at the town, state and Federal level.

The grant area is marked by tall cylinder channel marker bouys that lay down at low tide.
