This is how we got to where we are now…
So about 18 years ago, I got invited to my buddy's Fourth of July party who just bought a house a street away from the fields that EVERYONE goes to see the Easthampton Fireworks. I was about to get some Oreos and call it a day, but that is not what happened. I was at (some of you will remember) Buckwheat’s one night, bumming out about not knowing what
to make or bring to the party. This older guy asks me what is wrong, and I proceed to tell him the story. We called him Captain America since he always wore a denim jacket with an American Flag and eagle on it. He was a good dude and he says to me “Make pickles, EVERYBODY LOVES PICKLES!!“ He jotted down a recipe from his grandmother off the top of his head onto a napkin. Well I made a gallon jar of them and was told I would need to list the ingredients on the jar in case there was somebody at the party that could be allergic to something in them. I was thinking that I needed a label and a name as well, and a mutual friend’s wife just blurts out “Just call them Bill’s Dills.” Mind blown!! So now I have the pickles and the name and created the logo you see today. So, I brought them to the 4th of July party early, since I must go set up the Pyro Show. Go set the show up and come back to the party while waiting for dark. My buddy meets me in the driveway and walks me into the back yard where there were about 50 or so people. I look out of the corner of my eye to the food table. I see the jar with nothing in it but liquid and some random dill leftover. Other than that, it is completely EMPTY. The party host calls everyone’s attention and announces, “This is Bill, he is the one setting off the fireworks” People are like “cool, awesome, that’s neat…” then he says “He’s also the guy that made the pickles” I got a standing ovation, clapping and all! Everyone took a minute to tell me how awesome they were. I made them just for my family and friends every summer (missed a few summers) since then. Never had one person that likes pickles say “they were ok, not bad etc.” Everyone always was like “these are great!!” I’ve seen their faces. I’ve tweaked the recipe a few times over the years but it’s dialed in now. Fast forward to summer 2020. My daughter had asked me to make some pickles. Like to the point of nagging. So, I caved in and was discussing it with my neighbor and friend of 30+ years and he was like let’s make some. We did. Two 1-gallon batches. The conversation started to go into the “let’s make them and sell them” , since these are like nothing on the market. That turned into where we are today. I thank all of our friends, new and old, for supporting us on this journey. Without you all, this would still be a fun idea to think about instead of actually becoming a reality. We appreciate all of you who have helped to grow this to where it is now, and where it’s hopefully going from here!! Thank you!!
