The 2024 Memphis in May team of Team Waterdog.

We had another great time in Memphis and some decent placements in the competition.

Top 10 in Chicken Wings - #8
Top 15 in Mustard Barbeque Sauce - #12
Top 20 in Pork Shoulder - #16
Top 25 in Beef - #22

Time to get ready for 2025!

First time competing in an International Chili Society sanctioned Chili Cookoff -St. George Island Chili Cookoff. Let’s see how this goes and hoping for a decent showing.

Update:
People’s Choice Chili - Made ~4 gallons and raised $251 for the St. George Island Volunteer Fire Department and received favorable feedback from the event attendees.

Competition Chili - Missed placing in the Top 6 and they didn’t provide ranks from top to bottom. Judges notes on the negative side - too spicy, not thick enough, too much chili powder, and meat chunks were too big.

Maybe a better showing next time.

Memphis in May 2022 - #7 in Chicken Wings. Perfect score along with 7 other teams. There was a four team tie breaker at the top and we finished at #7 in this category out of 140 entries.

It was a team effort pulling this one together and while we didn’t get to walk on stage we’re proud of our finish in this category.

Preparing for the St. George Island Chili Cook Off in early March. This will be the first time competing in a formal chili competition. At this point, I don’t know what I don’t know.

Here’s a throwback photo to a small chili contest held at a local brewery. Finished 4th out of 8. This event predates Grilling on the Deck.

It was a blast for Grilling on the Deck & to cook with these gentlemen (if you can call them that!) as part of Team Waterdog at Memphis in May 2023.
