🦌 WONDER WHY THERE ARE FEWER AND FEWER DEER PROCESSORS EVERY YEAR? HERE'S A PERFECT EXAMPLE.
We're living in a time when everyone knows butcher shops are disappearing. Finding someone to process your deer is getting harder every year, and finding someone willing to accommodate AFTER-HOURS DROP-OFFS is even harder.
AND THIS S**T RIGHT HERE IS WHY.
Tonight, we had someone tell us they'd be dropping a deer off at 8 PM.
So we stayed at the shop. We waited.
8 PM came and went.
At 8:30, WE had to reach out and ask if they were still coming.
The response?
"I can't make it tonight. Are you open tomorrow?"
ARE YOU FU***NG KIDDING ME?
No phone call. No heads-up. Not even a damn apology.
Here's what some people seem to forget.
WE ARE NOT REQUIRED TO OFFER AFTER-HOURS DROP-OFFS.
We do it because we understand hunters have jobs, families, and schedules of their own. We try to make deer season as convenient as possible for everyone.
But apparently respecting OUR time is too much to ask.
It's disrespectful. It's sh*tty. And it's exactly the kind of behavior that makes people in this industry throw their hands up and say, "You know what? Screw it. We're done."
And someday, when there aren't any deer processors left willing to answer their phones on weekends, open their doors after hours, or sacrifice their personal time, everyone will wonder what happened.
THIS. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED.
You cannot continually expect small businesses to bend over backward for you while treating their time like it's absolutely worthless.
We're happy to help hunters. We love what we do.
But our kindness and flexibility are NOT an invitation to take advantage of us.
If you make an appointment, SHOW UP.
If your plans change, PICK UP THE DAMN PHONE.
And if you can't manage either of those things, don't be surprised when butcher shops stop offering the conveniences you've come to expect.
