Last night I had grand plans of treating the kids to a night off the farm and going to see the movie on Main Street thanks to the Paynes. Life with cattle dictated otherwise.
We got to the farm in Randolph County to find something - cattle or deer? - had demolished the fence and the entire herd was not where they were supposed to be. We ran back home, filled buckets with grain, came up with a plan and grabbed the fence tester. We each knew our role: Caroline threw the grain, Cyrus called the cows and I fixed the fence.
A little over an hour later the cattle were where they were supposed to be, the fence was repaired and Hot and the kids were celebrating, if only with each other and not their friends in town.
They settled for popcorn and a showing of Yours, Mine & Ours at home and never once complained. I am rich.
