Back from vacation and back to the farm! 🐄🐷🐓
I drove to the Chicago suburbs with two of the old dogs in tow—because at their ages, leaving them behind for that long just wasn’t happening. We packed a lot into the trip: side-by-siding with my best friend from high school, riding ridiculous stuffed-animal accessibility scooters around Chicago’s Museum Campus, the Berrien County Youth Fair (not nearly enough dairy cows, for the record), and an absolutely INSANE White Sox game that ended with a walk-off home run. ⚾️ I also got my Perros Bros fix, because they have the best gyros in all the lands.
The drive home included Waze attempting to send me through Canada, two egrets, a fox, a buck, two does, two fawns, and a surprise ferry ride from Plattsburgh to Grand Isle—which actually turned out to be a pretty great way to come home.
And apparently everyone here noticed I was gone. Reaper the cat and Belle the Great Pyrenees have been Velcro since I got back. Ruth mooed at me a lot, although I strongly suspect that was less “I missed you” and more “FEED ME.” 😂 Cleoporktra escaped while I was gone, found herself a nice spot, and took an eight-hour nap before her pen was repaired. I’m down one hen, and another has gone broody—in the outhouse. Again.
At this point, I may just have to build the chickens their own outhouse.
Vacation was great. But it’s good to be home. ❤️
