What a beautiful weekend sharing Crown Hill, making new friends, seeing familiar faces and all the in between. This is such a wonderful event with a high caliber of farmers, makers, artists, teachers and participants all the way around, I’m honored to be included❤️

We truly have a rich and delightful fiber community here in WNY. There’s so much I can celebrate from sharing indigo seedlings, teaching three passionate women about natural dye, shepherdess friendships and connections and conversations ranging from coffee preferences to sheep wellness, fiber milling, wacky taxidermy and geese.

THANK YOU THANK YOU. Let’s do it again next year!

There’s a CONSTANT lesson for me with yarn and fiber and natural dye and shepherdessing which is a lesson in PATIENCE.

A couple of nights ago I thought: ‘before bed, I’ll just rewind this one skein of yarn. It’ll be quick.’ Well, somehow midway through it, the loop fell off the swift and became a tangled mess. So what did I do for an hour that night at 11pm? Sat with a tangle in my lap and slowly pulled it apart in the blissful quiet before re-winding it correctly.

Today, I’m starting a new dye Pot and trying something different by extracting for different lengths of time different flowers in the mix. However, I forgot I was going to do that and dumped the tiniest of the three flowers into the pot with everything else instead of holding them out to wait. So what am I doing? My Bestie sat down on the kitchen floor with me to help me sort through and pick all the little flowers back out again. Once again, if I was moving a little slower, I might have remembered that I was not going to mix everything in one pot right away. The other gift, of course, is that Megan and I love to sit on the kitchen floor and have a girlfriend chat. In this case, Penny, the cat helped a little bit also.

All of this to say that yarn teaches me to slow down. Pay attention. Deepen my mindfulness. And of course, have patience with all things and allow the natural unfolding to occur.

I’m getting excited for and teaching a workshop on Eco-Printed Speckle Dye Yarn next Saturday.

Play with dried botanicals from my gardens and create your own naturally dyed yarn. Learn the basics of natural dye on protein fiber and unleash your creativity in partnership with Mother Nature!

Besides my workshop, I’ll have my naturally dyed single-breed yarns, sewing notions, and farm-made gifts besides a group of wonderful vendors:

Fiber Art. Demonstrations. Workshops.

What is there not to love about next weekend: April 25-26

One of the fun ways to natural dye yarns is eco-printing to make speckled colored patterns. Each skein is a one-of-a-kind creation with unlimited possibilities once you get going. Sometimes I speckle a single petal type on top of a vat dyed solid. Sometimes I go for all the colors or very sparse color on the white. The creativity is unlimited.

That’s why I enjoy teaching the Eco-Print Speckle Dyed Yarn class. Besides being a fantastic way to learn natural dye basics, it’s an easy way to get started experimenting and creating with dye plants.

In just a couple of weeks, I’ll be teaching this workshop and sharing Crown Hill naturally dyed farm yarns. Come play with botanical colors and make your own eco printed yarn creation! It’s a weekend of learning, art, community and fiber not to be missed.

A few years ago I planted daffodil bulbs all over the place with .clark12 mixing 6 or 7 different varieties. They open at different times: first the standard all yellow cup ones that were here already, then the pale yellow, white and white with yellow stripe varieties and then last are these two types before the tulips start to pop up.

On a group collaboration and connection call of incredible folks in food and farming systems, we each shared what do we love about spring this year. My answer: Daffodils + Baby Chicks. YUP, that about sums it up.
