Our little mule girl, Foxy Cleopatra, has already proven she’s got a whole lot of heart packed into her tiny frame. She made her entrance into the world a bit earlier than expected, and from day one, we knew she’d need a little extra help to get her footing. Her very first day involved a trailer ride to the vet clinic, blood draws, and a plasma transfusion to give her the boost she needed. From there, we were sent home with a tough schedule of three injections a day—two different antibiotics to support her early start.
It was hard on all of us, but especially on her. Every time she saw us coming to the pasture, all she knew was discomfort—not love, not safety, just those dreaded shots. It was heartbreaking watching her become wary and scared, and I remember thinking more than once that we might never earn her trust again.
Once her course of medication was finished, we made the choice to stop pushing and let her come to us on her own terms. And then… something incredible happened.
A week passed. Then another. And slowly, Cleo began to choose us. First with cautious steps. Then a little closer each day. A few well-timed scritches here and there turned into full-on snuggles. And now? Now she runs to us in the pasture, tail flying, ears forward, and heart wide open. She leans in for love and offers kisses freely, like she was never unsure at all.
Even Revali is a little jealous—he tries to step in when he sees her getting all the attention! But when it’s just me and Foxy out there, she makes a beeline straight for my heart.
I’m so grateful she gave us another chance. Her bravery, forgiveness, and growing love are a testament to the strong, sweet soul she is. I just know she’s going to grow into someone’s once-in-a-lifetime partner—loyal, loving, and full of joy.
